If so, then how come their first amendment right (of freedom of religion) does not apply to them?

If not, then what's to stop any group from forming a religion (like how Scientology became a religion) that sanctions gay marriage, for the purpose of suing every state except Massachusetts?

firstly. There are religeons that sanction the idea, but its not on there agenda. It is beleived to be ok to be gay in these groups..... but these groups believe it to be choice. correction know it is choice. approximatelly 75% of men will have sexual impulses for a taboo. but the acctual percent of rapists and child molesters is not that high.... by far These groups generally put gay into the same bag for men. If you are a man, you are expected to be strong in search of wisdom. Gay..... one guys gonna end up being the.... women in the act.

Women that are gay generally get treated better in these groups. but each individual group is different. Some wont give you any trouble, some will give you a lot of hassle.

If your looking to sue people though..... they arnt going to let you into there faith. and you do have to be sanctioned by an official assembly to be allowed in. (if you are not you are free practicing and you have to fight the court yourself with no protection.)

the MAIN point. Is that Being gay goes under freedom of choice. Which is why it can't be outlawed. and Marriage is infact defined as between a man and a women in the united states. You can enter domestic partnership. (which has some of the marriage benefits) and if you really wanted to you could go to canada and get married and some states would accept that.

You know it sucks, and if i saw a piece of protest, or something that I could endorse i would. but the truth is that most people dont really care to much about homosexuals. They just sort of are.

Best of luck to you.

There's plenty that do, along with individual churches of several religions that sanction it even if their entire religion doesn't.

And therein lies the rub. Legal, institutionalized marraige isn't limited to members of the Abrahamic religions - but the Abrahamics have encoded at least some of their religious prohibitions into the laws. Somehow, they consider two gays getting married more threatening than two Pagans getting married. (That strikes me as a little odd since, statistically, the Pagans are more apt to produce a Pagan child than the gay couple is to produce a gay child. But, people are people, and fear's rarely logical....)

In the U.S., the laws regarding the regulation and recognition of marriage and the granting of marital rights are state determined, not religiously determined, as marriage does not require religious ceremony or sanction. All states require a marriage license prior to granting marriage. If marriage was solely a religious matter, religious institutions could determine who could marry and under what conditions. Legally, they can't.

It does not matter. Civil marriages are what is important. Religious marriages are only blessings - the piece of paper you sign to get married is a civil document. Why look for a religion that sanctions gay marriages if you do not believe in that religion?

Marriage is a secular institution, even though we allow certain people's "religious" "values" to dictate the nature of that institution. So the response would be that you could sanction gay marriage in your church, and the government couldn't stop you, but it still wouldn't be legal.

To the two similar-looking fideists above me I'd only say that you don't speak for God, nor do you judge for God, so spare us.

Who cares?

Each person in a couple marry each other. Religion and public opinion are unnecessary concerns.

EDIT: "Yes, Wiccans are good about this. They often are smart enough not to have hang ups about who other people sleep with."

Actually, the first amendment right means that you have the freedom to believe what you want, not make up any religioin you want. Though you can make up any religion you want thats always been free.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

Religion and the government do not hold hands and they should never hold hands......that's why one has nothing to do with the other.
