I just read that question a moment ago.
It's really sick that these people cannot understand the implications that their statements make. They claim that they can only be "good" with a belief in god..... So their god is the only thing keeping them from being "evil".... while atheists can be good people.... not for reward... but because it's "right." These people are SICK!
It's basically like saying "I'm a good person because if I'm not I'll go to hell"...... so the only reason why they are good is because they're afraid to be bad/evil. That is not moral behavior. Moral behavior is choosing right from wrong and doing it of your own free will, not being coerced by fear to do something you normally would not do. Freakin psychos!

I am a believer. I am *nice* because it is natural. No matter what is going on in my life, when I go to work which happens to be at a grocery store right now. I forget what's going on and treat each and every person w/ respect and I am nice to them. I say hello, ask them how they are doing, tell them have a great day. Not because "it's part of my job" but that I truly care.

My main reason is that I realize I'm no better than anyone else. Everyone deserves a break. I try to smile, be friendly because it makes life better in general. It contributes to positive experiences and I'd rather have those than negative.
Saying excuse me, I'm sorry, and stopping to hold the door for someone makes for pleasant exchanges and acknowledges the value of others.

People are nice or try to be nice (subjectively or objectively) for their own good. Maybe, they try to be nice because they realize profit of doing that or just simply to satisfy their emotional demand, themselves.
Overall, people (even animals) do everything to satisfy themselves.

No, we simply feel sorry for your lost and twisted soul. We pray that one day before you take your last breath of life that you will lose the scales from off your eyes and that you will have a chance of repentance before you leave this world.

As a Christian I can be nice when I want to. I can also be onery as an atheist.
I will say this no other person will convince to be nice. If I feel it is time to be onery then I will be mean or onery

Life is too short to be a complete jerk all the time.
Besides, I like it when people are nice to me and it's been my experience that they're much more likely to smile if I am, too.

It's a heart change which I didn't have much influence over.
Why hang the girl out to dry like that?
