Mary was the person God chose to bring His only begotten son into the world. As such, she was the only person ever born without original sin. She was humble and diligent and followed God's plan even when she had no idea what was going on. Because of her purity, God didn't allow her body to die a physical death. God "assumed" her into heaven, uncorrupted by death. She wasn't the first. There were some Old Testament prophets who were also assumed into heaven before their physical death: Elijah was one of them.

This was a wide-spread belief among Catholics since around 100AD, but it only became offical Church doctrine in the 1950s, I think.

Hi, I know I am not the most knowledgable person about the topic, but I am not nasty about it! I am currently in RCIA (the class that prepares adults for becoming Catholic) and am struggling with grasping all that myself. But here is what I understand of it:

Mary was a young virgin woman who was immaculately conceived (which means that when her mother became pregnant with her, God granted her a special favor of being without original sin) and chosen by God to perform a grueling task of raising a son who was also God! She accepted and was impregnated through God's power of creating.

A man named Joseph married her, even though she was pregnant. In this age, it was very very scandelous to do this! Both of them could be stoned to death, but they faced the community and married. Joseph was chaste and honored Mary and her virginhood until death. Joseph apparently died before Jesus was crucified. Joseph was Jesus's protector and teacher.

Mary remained without sin, both original and regular sin, her whole life. She was with Jesus all his life, she was with him at his crucifixion, and she was with him after death. She was there when Jesus came back. she was with the apostles when the Holy Spirit came down as a flame upon them at Pentecost. In her whole life, she never commited a sin or lost faith. Her eyes were always turned to God and his will.

Because she had no original sin, she did not deserve natural death, and so was simply lifted from earth into heaven and was crowned the Queen of Heaven.

Hope that all helped... don't take it as absolutely true though... I am still a l.i.t.t.l.e. unsure about all the specifics.

In Islam, Quran said:

"Behold! the angels said, 'Oh Mary! God gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him. His name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter, and in (the company of) those nearest to God. He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. He shall be (in the company) of the righteous... And God will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel'" (3:45-48).

She was the mother of Jesus. If you read the Bible correctly you will see that it says that Joseph did not "know" her until after the birth of Jesus. After that they were the normal husband and wife having other children. She was not "assumed" into heaven and given special rights to intercede or grant blessing or perform miracles. She was just as mortal as the rest of us. The catholic church uses Mary and many other saints to keep Jesus just out of reach and to heighten the mystic of religion. Read your Bible...that was not and is not God's plan. Man, the species not the gender, can mess up anything.

Mary, God rest her soul, is dead. Right now she is nothing and does not exist as she is dead in the ground or in some family tomb. However, on the day of Judgement she will be resurrected just like the rest of those who have died and those of us who will die...a few will be left alive on the earth at the time of the end...I don't like using terminology not in the Bible but most people refer to the "being caught up" as the rapture...whatever. Either way...no one has gone to hell and no one has gone to heaven. Hell, as referred to in the bible is the grave or death. It has been given a pagan association because of man's tradition but if you look up the term 'hell' you will find that it gets its origins from Norse folklore and the god of the underworld 'hel' just like the devil is given two horns and cloven hooves by the celtic god 'pan'....and so forth. Love in Christ, ~J~

There's no "pope" in the Bible. He's an antichrist. And Mary is dead, and can't hear you "praying" to her. She was also a sinner like us, and she had sex with Joseph after the virgin birth of Jesus, and had many children with Joseph sexually.

And she plays no role in salvation whatsoever.

she was chosen to be Jesus' mother. she was a blessed woman. i believe she is not a intercessor to God like some people think she is. she is just a blessed woman who sinned just like everyone else and now she is in heaven with God.

Yes, allow me to reflect...

Mary died like every other sinner. She went to heaven like every other mortal that believes in Christ as their savior.

She awaits Resurrection and judgment like all other saints (Christians).

She had many children.

That is not true. Not even biblical. MNary has no power as the power of God.
