What is the best connection for my surround sound so as to get the best quality? And do you actually get true surround sound

The best connection is going to vary greatly according to your existing equipment so unless you provide model numbers you are out.

It depends on your amplifier if it can handle DTS HD or Dolby True HD there are only a few amps capable of handling this at the mo & they are from Onkyo, from what i've read they are very good amplifiers! If not try a digital co-axial connector over optical.

best result for hd dvd player is hdmi connection.if ur tv doesn't hav that, component (blue , green n red) for video n optical for audio.
