Keep white wine chilled, put the cork back in it and it will last 2-3 days before it loses all flavor. It won't go 'bad' after that, it just won't taste like very much.

Do the same thing to red wine to help it last a bit longer. Overnight in the fridge with the cork in will help it last longer (let it warm up a bit before drinking it). But, even chilled, red wine will only hold its flavor for a day - two at the most.

You can purchase stoppers that remove the oxygen from the bottle extending its shelf life as well and even more expensive options if you're interested - available almost anywhere or certainly a good wine shop.

I've found that the stoppers/pumps that are used to remove the air from the bottle work pretty well. I've been able to keep red wine for a couple of days that way.

The size of wine bottles being what they are should encourage drinking with one other person anyway, preferably of the opposite sex. Perhaps that's the point.
