depends on the state. Go to Findlaw.com and look up your local state laws. Some states consider this a felony. I believe at least a few states will take away your drivers license for life.

It depends on the State typically. Someone I knew just got a 4th DUI and a measly slap on the wrist!!! I live in AL. I was absolutely appalled and wish I could do something to help change the laws. It was supposed to be a felony but the Judge gave her a "stern" warning and made it a misdemeanor and said NEXT time it would be a felony. She was in jail for only 13 days, 2 days of DUI classes and is back on the road without any suspension of her drivers license driving drunk on a daily basis. It is absurd. They have all these advertisements stating that you will be arrested if you are caught and I feel like saying yeah and then you will be released with no punishment at least in AL. More definitely needs to be done because too many people are being killed everyday.

Most states provide mandatory jail time for 3rd and beyond offenders. This varies from state to state though. If you have been charged, they will tell you the possible consequences at your arraignment or initial hearing. Pay attention to what the judge says even though you may be nervous.

If you have been charged with a 4th DUI you will definitely need a lawyer as you could be facing significant jail time. In my state, you would be facing a felony conviction and 3 years in prison.

Whomever is on his/her 4th DUI needs help NOW. I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF SEEING DUI RELATED DEATHS. They are needless and tragic. Call a goddammed cab.

Punishment. Have fun with the jail sentence, and whoevers license will probably be revoked for 10 years or more.

For my older brother it was life in a wheel chair.

It depends on the state, most now regard the third as a felony, so I would guess in those states it's going to be a couple three years. That's good though because you will get a new set of dentures shortly after you get there. The other prisoners will break out the front teeth of new guys so they can't bite down. You will need to figure that out!!

A guy my son knows just got 6 months in jail on his 4th DUI. He also lost his license for good. I'm so not against partying, but have someone else drive. Is it really worth it????

There is no "general punishment" rather it's according to the state you're in. In Georgia they have a three strikes you are out meaning that on the third charge you would have your license taken away for life or at least that's the way it was when Zell Miller was gov.

A 30 minute spanking 4 times a day, everyday, for 20 years.

I believe in Illinois you can have your driving prviledges revoked for up to 10 years, pay $10,000 fine or spend a max of 3 years in prison.

Tar and feathered, then stoned by and angry mob. At least if I ran the country. DUI is stupid, my brother in law was almost killed by one. He still isn't right. He blanks out, and has had many surgeries over the years due to the wreck. As far as I am concerned DUI is right up there with premeditated murder and should be prosecuted as such.

I know in Indiana the third is a felony. Fourth is also a felony and can result in your license being suspended for 10 yrs, depending on the state.
