Hi my mum had a mamogram 2 weeks ago and has been asked to go to the hospital tomorrow. The letter states she should bring someone with her. Does that mean she has cancer? Will they do a biopsy on the lump before confirming? What happens? Im really worried.

Having a biopsy is a pretty painful thing. I had to have one about 4 years ago and then again in March of this year. Both times I went alone which was really stupid. They should have suggested that someone come with me.

When I did get diagnosed in February of this year, first I went to my regular Dr. and he immediately sent me to the surgeon who right then and there told me after feeling around and feeling the lump in question that they treat this as me having cancer. He did aspiration and 2 days later it was confirmed.

Try not to worry until they do the biopsy. I know this is hard but you have to stay strong for your mother.

God bless you both.

It could be a number of things. It doesn't always mean cancer. They may want to go ahead and do a biopsy to check it out, and that may be why they want her to bring someone with her. There are many other reasons for things to come up in a mamogram... Good luck and be there for your mum during this time. =)

If you have not had a mammogram, please do. They will not operate until they biopsy & get lab results. I had an in office needle biopsy. They take a small sliver of tissue.they may being wanting to do a more indepth mammogram. If they were thinking about surgery, she needs to choose a surgeon and discuss this with them.If there are cancer cells a lumpectomy may be a choice. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last oct.06.I have been thru chemo&radiation. My hair is growing in and I,m feeling great.Take it one step at a time. Please do not hesitate to ask more questions.I also had a cone biopsy in the hospital to get a more precise location of the cancer cells. I do not mean in any way to scare you. I had put off my mammogram too long & I was very sorry.

Don't panic just yet, they probably want to do a further mammogram or may have seen something that they want to check out, most lumps found during a mammogram turn out to be harmless, if anything has been found they will do a biopsy first to see if it is malignant or not. If it does turn out for the worst, just think to yourself at least they found it and can sort it out one way or the other. Good luck.

She probably is going to have biopsy on the lump. This doesn't mean she has cancer it means they need to find out what the lump is.

Found early, breast cancer is very curable.

They're probably going to do a biopsy on a lump. I can't tell from how you describe it, but apparently they are planning to knock her out briefly to do it, although I know in some cases, they knock you out, do the biopsy, and then immediately do a mastectomy if the biopsy comes out bad. You need to get more information from the doctor or hospital.

Not Yet. Yeah, they probably need to either do further mammo xrays, an Ultrasound or MRi, or possibly biopsy. Chances are they're still investigating. No need to panic.
Since they asked you to come there is drugs involved so it's probably a biopsy

It doesn't sound good, but if it's any consolation, breast cancer is very treatable, especially if it is caught in time. I know several women who have had it, undergone chemo, surgery, radiation, etc. and are still alive, well, and in some cases even back at work. Worry is a waste of time and energy, so keep the faith, and be strong for your mom.

hi nina take it easy if your mum has a lump it needs to be investigated a little more. they probaly want some-one with your mum because if they have to talk to your mum They like to have a second person their so that one of you is taking in all of information that the doctor's telling you .your mum's head might be in a whirl so she might not take in the information that's she is being told .Also the person going with your mum tell them to take a note pad with them .
not all lumps are cancerous good luck to your mum.

What ever you think the problem is you should read up on it first this gives you a good idea of what to expect and will help you think of what questions to ask. I have always be told to expect the worse scenario so if it is good news you are more delighted than if it is bad. I wish you good luck for it and please let us know how it goes. GOOD LUCK.
