We live in a condo complex and our next door neighbors just have to listen to rave music from 11pm - 2am every night without headphones. It's loud and the bass cuts right through walls. At least twice a month, my husband and I have to kindly ask them to keep the volume down so we can get some sleep. They'd say ok and turn it down just a little, then the same thing happens a few days later. Clearly they don't jobs to go to in the morning! We have thought about calling the police, but really, what can the police do but issue a verbal warning? Should we contact our condo management office? We're getting tired of asking them to turn down the noise, and have talked with our other neighbors. They too agree that this is an issue, but since they're across the hall, the noise isn't too bad for them. We're considering leasing the condo and moving out, but it's just unfair how the rude & selfish get to do whatever they want and not be stopped or punished. What can you do?

First off there are noise ordinances, here it is 10pm. The police should issue tickets, which would result in a fine. I would talk to the building manager, and keep complaining until the problem is solved. If that doesn't work call the cops and make them do what we pay them to do. If none of that works move. You shouldn't be forced to change your life because of inconciderate neighbors. If they like their music loud they should have moved to the country.

I would suggest getting all of your neighbors together and going to your next condo association meeting to address this issue. I think if the situation has gotten to the point to where you're considering moving, something should have been done a long time ago. You should not have to deal with that nonsense, especially if you're paying an association fee. Aren't they supposed to address conflict and issues within the building?

write a letter to the mgt stating your case if you can get your other neighbors in too, better. See what happenes ,usually there are bylaws that are to be followed by all. if they are not they will be cited. try this first,if no luck contact the police and make a complaint, don't let the cops just give them a warning make them document it so the next time the cops are called they havve a record of the incident. good luck.

Yes it is so unfair. Do not speak with them again. One should always go to the homeowners assn for help or the manager to preserve ones anonymity. If that doesn't work, try to call the police anonymously. If you lease it to someone else they will be calling y ou in the middle of the night for help. It is a huge problem on this site i note from all of the questions about what to do. I fear for this so called society

Several years ago my barking dogs were turned into Animal Control for excessive barking. The head of Animal Control came out to the house & stood & talked to me over my fence. She was here for a half hour or more to see what my dogs barked at & how long they barked. While she was here they barked & carried on three times. Once when someone was walking down the street, once when a neighbor was getting in his car & another time when they saw a cat. & of course when she arrived. After the 30 minutes or so she said she did not see anything wrong with their barking & that my yard was just like hers. She too took in dogs in need of a home. She said, "Dogs bark, that is what they do." I did not receive a citation. My dogs are trained as fence dogs & they bark if anyone is on the street or if there is a dog in the street, they bark at neighbors but they don't bark for no reason. You can call Animal Control & see what they say about your neighbors dog. Your rules & regs may be different than here. I just wanted to tell you how it worked out for me.

Don't move out, there are noise ordinances for a reason. Call your condo management office and call the police.

Keep a log for about a month of all the disturbances and then contact your condo board. You pay those association fees for a reason, let them take care of it.

Check out your city's by-laws. Then document every occurance of the noise (beyond normal hours). Call the police every time. Document this, obtain a copy of their report. You could then take action under your city's by-law.

My daughter did this - worked.

CALL the police! Just because you think they can't do anything doesn't mean they won't do anything about it. They DO get more than "verbal warnings".

Complain to the head office as well.

You are not being firm enough. You have to make it very clear to them that you will not put up with their noise. After 10pm, they should know they cannot be so noisy. Ask them to turn it down EVERY TIME. If they don't turn it down enough, go back and tell them again. You are allowing them to do this by not asserting your rights. Be assertive.
