I suppose its kinda like this, in the biblical sense, gods helpers or side men, with a few that thrown out of the band, gabriel etc..
spirit guide is close to a totem, such as burning the virgin at sunrise, to ensure good crops, or great hunting, or good fortune etc..
One is loosely based around christianity with borrowed pieces from pagan in the zealot sense.
The pagan is more to the earth and a natural totem for the trible.
I for instance was given a painting of the serpent dreaming, whenever I make it up to the south western region in Australia, I can give that part of the story back to its owners.
Until then I am its pseudo guardian and it, is suppose to look after me.
So legend has it.
I like the story, I feel it was an accident when it came into my possession.

an angel is a spiritual being , it has never lived a physical life
a spirit guide is a higher spirit , who has previously had a physical life ... but who helps guide those in this life
I have different beliefs than most when it comes to both of these things ... but that is the basics of it

Angels are holy spirits. So-called "spirit guides" are demons disguised (initially) as angels, who are summoned through occult and other ungodly practices.

An angel is a spirit being sent by God and serves God.
A spirit guide is not, and does not.
