Yeah, my kid started a new school last week and was called 'gringo' twice in two days, and had people walk into him 'accidentally on purpose' in the halls then demand 'what's wrong with YOU?', and the white and asian kids are finding places to hole up at recess and lunch to get away from it (not their words, but lunch clubs never had such popularity at their elementary school where nothing like this happened.) My kid is pretty tall and athletic, so when a guy demanded he leave the area of the locker room where his own locker was, started speaking at him in Spanish, then said he could just 'pound [my son] into the ground' yesterday, my son broke out laughing. Apparently the guy came up to my son's sternum, and the friend with the antagonistic locker room despot didn't seem to want any part of the situation.

My son told me about this thinking it was hilarious.

I didn't.

Mind you, the difference in 'races' is their idea. Until I came on this board, I never thought Latino was a different race (and really we should say some recent immigrants from Latin American here, since Italian and Spanish and settled Hispanic/Latino families don't seem to have this issue.)

From what I can tell it is prejudice, but very agressive, and the whites/Asians/settled Hispanics and blacks are looked at on one end, with these folks on the other. Hispanic is about 70% of the school, but this group is distinguished by their 'school track' of C track, which is heavily ESL. The other combined tracks are also majority Hispanic, but are not the issue. Not all the kids on C track, obviously, have this problem, but enough do that 'C track being in session' is a determiner of what kids do at lunch, apparently.

Chinese and east asians? Yeah, there is prejudice against them, at this school, by C track. As I said, they seem to be considered white. There are a bunch of east Asians in the program my kids are in, and within the program there is no issue with anyone of any race. But these are the better educated kids of the better educated parents, and prejudice is ignorance, after all.

Unfortunatly it still exists everywhere.
Stupid really, if you travel alot you may find yourself in a place where you are the only one of your race around and then you will know how it feels to be a victimof racism.
I am in Hungary right now and the people here really are racist against the Gypsies. They tell me that I am an outsider and don't understand how bad they are. They have never hurt me so I have nothing against them.
My husband went to S.Africa in the 1970's for a visit. He was so shocked by the way the black people were treated there that he came back to the USA as soon as he could. It actually scared him.He is a white man but never saw people treated so unfairly just because they were of a different race.
He was treated very good there but thought it was strange that everyone was nice to him just because he was white,he could of been an evil person but didn't matter to them only his skin color mattered. He was raised in a communist country where people were not judged that way so he was dumb struck.

All counties not just the USA have and always will have racism. I have a friend that was born in Norway, and she remembers that there jokes about how stupid the Swed's were, and I am sure the Swed's returned the favor

Unfortunately it does. Go online and look up Lynchings in the USA, Emmitt Till, History of the Ku Lux Klan and the Civil Rights Movement. In recent years Amadour Dialo of NYC and many many others.

The American Medical Association and American Psychological Society describe it as a mental illness.

All of the 'ism's' are marxist politics designed to keep people from uniting. Most people do not even understand the definition which is 'thinking your race is superior to another race'. You can not like another race without thinking you are superior. Most people like to be around other people that are like them. The civil rights people ended segregation but now insist on separate dorms for blacks and latinos. So segregation is okay for minorities but not whites.

yes. It is blasted to us through the media (anytime they mention "race" it is preaching racism). I believe racism starts by even believing in races at all. By accepting the fact that we are all human beings, not different races is how we eliminate racism, not by labeling people (white, Italian, African,Mexican, etc.) By no means should we lose our family history, but it should not define us as a race of people. Racism is everywhere, it is in the projects, it is in the suburbs, it is all over the place. Just because people keep it to themselves and do not flaunt it as was done in the past does not mean it has disappeared. Racism is not limited to one complexion hating the other, it is across the board all people hating other people for their skin color. I think its really absurd to dislike someone for their complexion. Dislike people for their actions. How dumb can you be for disliking somebody over something they had absolutely no control over.
