What are you saying when you confront him? Next time, advise him that, just in case he is unaware, sexual harassment in the workplace is a violation of Federal law and the company can fire him for it, since it is the company's behind on the line if an employee finds it necessary to sue over the behavior. Report the behavior to your boss, and give him/her the opportunity to deal with it as company policy deems. That should take care of it - again, management knows (or should know!) what's at stake here.

If you are not willing to handle the problem legally, then just smile, with a look on your face that you are staring at the dumbest person on the planet. Any little joke they make, say, "yeah, I have heard that one before." ...and walk away as if your too busy for this nonsense. If they keep it up relentlessly, which most of the time they do....you will just have to report it, or, knee the guy somewhere where it really hurts, or sock the woman a good one.

Well, the steps that should be taken are:
1. On the first occasion of offensive behavior, tell the person flat out - "I am sorry, but that is offensive - please don't say/do such things around/to me."
2. If it persists and bothers you, then you should go to your boss, or to the Human Resources department if there is one, and report it in writing.
3. If it persists, keep a log of all the times it happened, and keep copies of all your reports to management about it.
4. See a lawyer.

All of the above are relevant answers. Mine - get a little digital camera, snap his photo every time he is being an ahole, he can't stop you - unless he fesses up to HR, then have fun with turning the tables.
He will either snap, or leave you alone.

Tell the person who is doing it, that you are going to sue them and then follow through. If you report it to HR, they will maybe say something, but will track you as a troublemaker.
