Actually, "Rotkaeppchen" is the original word from Hessen (middle of Germany), and your english term is only a really (really) bad translation!!

It goes back to the old tradition that little girls would wear a little red cap on the heads. You will not see that anymore, but I have seen some paintings from about 200 years ago where they would still wear that.

The fairytale about Rotkaeppchen is actually several centuries old, it was already very old when Wilhelm Grimm wrote it down 170 years ago. It is a legend about child abuse (rape) and was meant to warn children about the dangers of walking off the path in the forest. The wolf stands for the rapist actually.

I have no idea what the teribble industry of Disney made of this ancient german story. Probably a wonderful blond girl story with happy happy happy ending.

Disney has stolen german legends and has twisted and falsified them so badly, it is so upsetting. But since they are several centuries old, they have no copyrights on them, and every idiot american from hollywood can take the stories and falsify them. Another evil example of this was "Cinderella" which also had a clear meaning, and absolutely not that **** you will be told in the disney movie!
