Your artist should have an alternative method- if not, call other tattoo artists and ask what they would do in this case.

Vaseline is not used to keep the skin from drying during a tattoo. It is actually used to help blood coagulation during the tattoo process. It keeps the area from becoming a bloody mess when packing in lots of color or doing a piece on a bleeder. I would ONLY use vaseline during this process. Any alternative will be very costly and actually the same thing. Like a medical grade vasetration like cut doctors use on fighters that get cut. So to more accurately answer your question, do not use anything other than vaseline and its all natural make up unless of course you have connections with a fight doctor and he can get you the better stuff. But you really do not need anything that severe. The bleeding and plasma from tattooing is not as great as a cut from a punch so the vasoline is just fine.

My tattoo artist doesn't use vaseline. To apply a stencil she uses speed stick and while tattooing she uses nothing. When the tattoo is done she applys bacitracin. Before you get your tattoo done make sure you tell your artist that you're allergic to vaseline. I'm sure they will have an alternative. Hope I could help. :)

The best thing I have found for my tattoos is Badger Balm which can be bought at Cracker Barrel or ordered on line. I checked the ingredients and it contains no petroleum jelly, so you should be able to use it with no problems. I'm not sure if they will let you use it during the actual session but it never hurts to try.

What about A&D ointment, or if that has a vaseline base, try something like vitamin E oil or Emu oil. Both of those moisturize without using petroleum.

they don't use vaseline, they use a&d or some other brand of an a&d like product. are you allergic to that?

if you are then you should check with your artist and see if they have any alternative stuff, maybe aquaphor? are you allergic to petrolium products? or just vaseline?
