YES IT DOES HELP. IT IS THEIR NATURAL WAY OF CLEANING, AND THEY DO IN ANY CASE HAVE A MINUTE AMOUNT OF 'NATURAL' ANTISEPTIC IN THEIR SALIVA. (I HAD AN INGROWING TOENAIL AS A CHILD, THE FAMILY LABRADOR KNEW, AND SO CLEANED IT ON EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY, SOME PEOPLE MIGHT THINK THIS IS GROSS, BUT ITS TRUE, AND IT HEALED.)

Definately NO, after a dogs been out licking other dogs arses ect sniffing crap and god knows what then comes and licks a cut noway, if you saw the bacteria thats depramental to humans in a dogs mouth you would never let a dog near your mouth or open wound again,

No. In fact it may help infecting the wound, despite the common misconception that saliva is antiseptic (it is if there is nothing else available to clean the wound with, not even water, I mean it would be the only way to clean your wound if you were a dog, but humans have better methods). When you have a wound, use betadine, or soap and water.

Saliva is contaminated with bacteria and will only prolong and prevent healing. If you cannot keep your dog from licking at an area, an Elizabethan collar may be needed so that they can't reach where they want to lick. Most of the time they are licking the area because it's itchy (like with sutures after surgery). After a surgical procedure, the veterinarian always tells clients not to allow the dog (or cat) to lick at the affected area as it can cause irritation that can lead to infection.

As far as licking a human wound....eww. Definitely not recommended.

Dogs live in a world of bacteria. Just see what they lick in the course of an hour. They also do not wipe there paws after going potty. The old wives tale that dogs have less bacteria in there mouth than humans is a misnomer. The fact is that they do they just have more immunity than humans. Do not let them lick an open wound!!

I remember getting a cut and a few scratches on my back and there was no way my tongue would reach round there. I asked a friend of mine, and they said 'I'm not licking your back'. So I let my dog do it instead. Healed up fine with little or no scarring.

theyre all right, anyones saliva can heal a wound because of antiseptic properties, but ill admit - id prefer it my own saliva than a dog that has just been licking its own butt! lol!

Yes - nothing better than a dog licking your open wound just after it's finished licking it's own bum.

Enjoy your tapeworm!!
