Canned mackerel makes great fishcakes. Mix with a little mashed potato , finely diced tomato and spring onions, an egg,a little chilli powder, salt and pepper and then double coat in homemade breadcrumbs. Leave to chill for a few hours and shallow fry until golden.ENJOY!

I like to take part of the canned mackerel and mash it with diced onions and black pepper. I then add mayonnaise and mix it all together. We like it on soda crackers. My father has this all the time. He sometimes uses sardines or smoked oysters too. I've even taken some of the mix and put it on a nice tossed salad - very good. I've even mixed it into the tossed salad with a little extra mayonnaise. The tomatoes really make it nice with the fish.
The rest of the canned mackerel I make into fish patties like the other people who have answered your question.

I also remember my mom doing the same thing (making patties with egg and cracker crumbs then frying) when we were kids....it is cheaper than canned salmon. I also use it to make a .....wrap....first open can and drain thoroughly...remove any 'bones' (I don't like them even though they are eatable) and the skin, use a fork and flake the meat and set aside,
I take chopped onion and cook it in a small amount of butter (sometimes I add mushrooms) in a bowl on the side I scramble some eggs.....when the onions and mushrooms are tender add the eggs and cook, letting them 'set' like you would scrambled eggs, then at the very end add your meat and mix, in another skillet warm a lightly butter flour or corn tortilla, fill with your meat and egg mixture and serve...add cheese if you like.....this is really yummy and goes quite far...

1/2 Cup flour, 2 Tbs meal, 1 egg, 1 Tbs mustard adjust to make a consistancy to make a patty, then fry.
This is my mom's recipe that her sister used. She says the mustard cuts down on the fishy taste. She prefers mackerel over salmon.
Fish is good for you. I wish I liked fish more. It has good oils.

I recall when I was a kid, my mom would mix it with egg and crumbled crakers and form patties from it and fry it like hamburgers.
