My daughter was screaming from gas pain and her stomach was really tight and bloated last night and kept me up half of the night. I said to my husband I was going to crush half of a tums and give to her but he forbid me to do that.

I thought it wouldn't have caused any problems and would have helped. Would I indeed have been able to do this with no bad side effects?

Actually the label does not say anything about an age requirement it only says Keep out of children's reach but so does Tylenol Infant drops.

Thanks Sam, I don't know why I thought people here on Y!A would be able to answer such a thing, they don't seem to know much about this topic. But they do know how to make a parent feel like crap for wanting to help their baby deal with the gas pain!

I don't know what all the other people are saying or where they get their information from, most of what they say is B.S.
At least 5 of them have no idea what they are talking about. Calcium Carbonate will not cause "gastric burning" as mentioned above. Where do these people get these terms from?

Our doctor said it was ok to give infants up 3 years old, 400 to 800 milligrams of calcium carbonate a day, which is what tums is.

Call your doctor, he/she will direct you with the best solution.

I tried the gas drops when my daughter was little too, but they didn't work. My mother gave me this idea, and its what she used for me when I was little and there were no gas relief drops for babies: boil 8 oz of water with a bay leaf in the water. Once it boils, turn off the stove and let it cool down a little bit. After it is cool but still warm add a very small amount of Karo syrup (optional, but it makes it taste better) and put it in a bottle and give it to the baby. I don't have any scientific backup or anything, but it does work.

i'm not sure it could do to a baby that young but when my 3 year old has had days of gas or upset stomach etc i give him have a tums. and he's fine the pain goes away and i've never seen a bad reaction over it. i actually prefer giving it to him over gravol as that tends to make him drowzy. maybe you can try giving a 1/4 of a tum.

I agree its not the end of the world and Tums is a pretty safe medicine. Good grief people.

I have found a very warm bath helps my kids when they have bad stomach aches whether it is constipation or gas. My youngest had severe gas one night and at my wits end at 2:00 am it helped more than anything else I had tried.

Well, Tums probably wouldn't do anything. I would use mylicon though, its made for children and acts by breaking up large gas bubbles into smaller ones and then its easier for the gas to pass. I would also lay her on her belly across your lap with a heating pad on low on your lap. If it feels to hot to you it's to warm for her.

What I did was gave my daughter those mylicon drops, and then wrapped a heavy blancket around her tummy, gave her a sugar water bottle and then burped her, she was find the rest of the night. Good Luck! Every since I have changed her formula to Simalac she hasn't had gas.

Check with a doctor. Some medicines like that are okay for babies/toddlers but some aren't. just to make sure, call up ur doctor and see what he thinks because he knows ur baby's body best.

What about childrens Pepto Bismol? Do not give her tums unless a Dr. says so.

i would shake the hand of your husband if i could
he realised the giving a baby a antacid meant for older children and adults would have serious consequences to a baby
a babys didestive and immune system is not capable of processing such an antacid and would have caused serious gastric burning
one thing could try in future is gripe water or calpol
if symptoms persist go immediately to your doctor explain to them what symptoms are and they will be able to advice you on any other medication

I understand where you are coming from, it isn't funny but you realize that there is medicine specifically made for children and then adults. Your husband was erring on the side of caution, nothing wrong with that.

Gas pain doesn't last forever, it's just one of the quirks of being a mommy.

You seem to be very sensitve to peoples comments on here when you ask. Perhaps this isn't the best forum for you if you are wanting people to just agree with you!
