the average length is the average length of the sausage-makers palm - you take a palm's length of sausage, pinch the top, twist, bring another palm-length down and twist again, then back up t the top, threading a double length through the loop, then pinch the double length half way and twist together - that's how you make links of three!

Different types of sausage have different lenghts. A breakfast sausage link may be 4 inches, a Salami may be 4 feet. It all depends on what style to give the average for that style. If you exclude the breakfast styles, most are in the 6 inch for buns, range.

Sausages can be quite long! Intestine was filled with meat and cooked. "Average" is a vague term, but if you really want to find out, take a trip to Poland! I bet your next question will be about beer! The sausages in one country such as Italy may vary in length from those in another country.

6" according to a sausage making site for preformed individuals. This allows for the standard bun to be used. as for the larger rolls they all appear to come in 24" lengths.

it depends on the kind and style you are making/buying.
keilbasa is usually 12-16" in the package. sausage rolls are about 5" in the package. italian and hot sausage in my area comes in pacakges where they are about 3" each.
we have a meat processor in town that makes sausage for hunters (venison) and i got some the year before that was almost 2-3' long
