Separately, they're both pure junk and contain ingredients that the body does not recognize as healthy or natural. I've heard/read that Diet Coke, when consumed in excess can soak calcium from the bones. (I've also heard that about milk and dairy in excess.) Mentos, I'm guessing, like any other conventional candy, contains high fructose corn syrup and other forms of chemical junk. Now, I don't think that the two taken together will cause one to explode, but I do think that neither of them are worth consuming on a regular basis.

I have never heard this one before, but there are several legends like this. I have done this quite often, and nothing has happened, but I did not know anything about mixing the two either. It is just not healthy, as all have said, but nothing between the two will react to where it will cause harm if consumed together.

I don't remember exactly, but it has something to do with the CO2 in the Coke and the small pores on the Mentos.
