My boyfriend of 10 months has not told me he loves me yet as he says when he says it he wants to really mean it and it will be forever. He said this is because he is too long in the tooth as he has said it earlier in the past and those relationships went wrong( two engagements). However he said the best compliment he can give is "he is the happiest he has ever been with a girl in his life." This confuses me as he doesn't love me, so how can he be happier with me than with girls he has been in love with in the past?

He is trying to tell you that he made the mistake of thinking that he was in love before, so now he really wants to be sure, but that you make him happier thatn they did. that makes you closer to real love than they were. It has only been 10 months. He will come around. Don't try to rush him, he is doing this for the right reasons.

Because he thought he loved them and the failure of those relationships has made him question if he truly knows what love is. Don't press the issue. It really is a great leap to say that you make him the happiest he has ever been with a woman. That probably is the closest he will come to actually saying," I love you," until such time as he is ready to make a permanent and legal commitment.

That makes perfect sense to me, Ive been crazy mad in love and i was not happy at all. My boyfriend was hurt and in a bad relationship with me before we got together and it took him a lot longer to tel me he loved me but boy oh boy when he did it was amazing. And then i knew it wasnt just words. Words are so easily said but when he told me i knew it was true and for real! It was so special .. I could tell someone i love them and had just met them im so like that but he only tell yo uwhen he really does and when he looks at you thinks your beautiful its so romantic and honest and true when he tells me he loves me!!!
You are lucky babes.. he will mean it truly when he tells you which is better than just saying it to mak you hapy
