One thing I noticed when I worked in the service industry, is that the cheapest people demand the best service. They expect you to jump through hoops for their dollars. They forget that service people rarely make enough money to care if they got bananas or not.
The ones with true wealth and class will never belittle you because of your position, only the ones with something to prove. So remember, with all the airs they put on, they are really phonies, and deep down, they know it too.

Do you see them for what they are or what they're doing to you?
You're right that they have no right to treat you any way but with respect and positive regard, but let's face it. Some people have no consideration for others, and they will act ugly just because they can. Somehow it makes them feel superior when in reality, it shows how small and cheap they really are. I hate to see them get to you because you are there to offer them a service they don't deserve anyway.
If this continues to bother you, perhaps you might consider looking for something else that isn't so stressful, or are you just stressed and in dire need of a break or vacation. You certainly can't continue to let these "bottom feeders" get to you and upset you. Is there any way you can "kill them with kindness," and not let it get under your skin? You so don't deserve to be treated that way, but unfortunately you work in a field where it goes on quite frequently. I worked in a hotel for a while, and I put up with it from the guests and my boss too. I couldn't handle the way they play their plastic little games with their false faces and their overinflated egos. I feel for you, but I'm concerned about your health and the toll it is taking on you.
I don't know if I've been of any help, but if you would like to email me, please feel free to do so. I'll be thinking of you, and I sure hope things get better. Good Luck

Altho it's not right, it is a part of being in the service industry. It takes a thick skin and unruffled nature to deal with such people with aplomb.
I am a cashier, and when I get rude people, I think to myself, 'Oh the poor dear is probably constipated'.
This helps me keep my cool.
As to people "getting loose" when they are away, I see nothing wrong with it (so long as they aren't cheating on a spouse- and even that is hardly any of my business).
People do need to vent stress and party every so often, and, frankly, what else is there to do at a hotel?
Try to lighten up and maybe empathise a bit. Most of your customers are probably suffering from jet lag or are road weary. Cut them some slack.
Maybe you could lighten them up with an empathetic comment such as, "Long trip to get here?" or "Been a busy day?"
As to the bananas or anything else they expect that your hotel doesn't provide, you could simply say, "I am sorry for the inconvenience with that. I'd be happy to suggest it to management, if you'd like".
In general, I find that my day goes much smoother and easier if I keep a cheerful, empathetic attitude.

I know exactly what you mean! I'm a flight attendant and it is amazing what people do to test your limits. The insults are unbelievable. I think they do it because they know that when we are in uniform we cannot answer back and they get a power kick out of it. Countless times I've been called a w**re or told to f**k off when offering refreshments. I've developed a really thick skin over the years and nothing surprises me anymore. These people are just pathetic individuals and some of them believe that complaining will get them an upgrade or a free ticket (What? No french fries on board? No belgian chocolates? You are a disgrace to your profession!).

I am on your side but just try to put yourself in their shoes and
I think that maybe as they are on holiday they want things to be perfect, so they go over the top by complaining when its not. Maybe they are feeling disapppointed and let down that things are not 100% right. They may have saved all year for this one holiday and they want to remember it for being perfect. People can be unreasonable at times and its hard to take when you are on the receiving end but try and grin and bear it. They will only be there for a short time and you will probably never see them again. Besides if you smile and flatter them you make be rewarded with a big tip!!( worth a try!!) As for the drunk louts just laugh inwardly at them and think how stupid they look and how embarressed they will feel in morning after the night before. They will probably have some regrets!!

While I am not rude about it, when I stay in a hotel I do expect to get what I pay for.
Perhaps if you took that chip off your shoulder you wouldn't be quite so offended all the time. I worked in a couple hotels, 4 years between the two, and in that time I had more trouble out of church and school groups and teens than I did out of business men.
Get another job, or get an education. You sound horribly jealous.

It is because they are spending their money and they look at you as if you have to 'serve' them according to their expectations AND because they are spending money. It doesn't matter if they are rich or not, they instinctively know that they have power over you and they use it because it is one of the few places, the service industry, that they can. Showing off is also a factor. But, don't you find that there maybe just as many nice people as bad but mostly, they are just PEOPLE.

You should be excited about going to Hell. All the hot people go there you know. Plus in Hell there will be lavish orgies around the clock. I can't wait to go there. Heaven is a really prude, boring place. It's not what people expected. See you in Hell, by the way.

You certainly shouldn't be working on the service side with your attitude which by the way has a whole lot to do with the way you are treated in kind. We travel a lot and on occasion have had to deal with a surly hotel worker who doesn't appear to have any interest in their job much like you. Thankfully, most of the people are very polite and nice and go out of their way to be accommodating. They are after all, representing the hotel they work for. Do us a favor and let us know what chain you work for. I for one want to make sure I never stay there.

You work in the service industry. It comes with the territory. Perhaps another job would be in order for you now. GL
