No, it doesn't mean have the same religion as Jesus's parents, because then it would be called "Jesusity". "Christ" is a special word that means "annointed one" and implies that the Jesus, the man described in the Gospels, had some special "divine" attributes in one way or another. That is the one thing that distinguishes Christianity from all other religions: a focus on Jesus and the Gospel stories that go with them.

Jesus was born to a Jewish family and came to save the Jews. Some Jews believed and some did not. Being a Christian does mean to follow Christ and his teachings. That is NT.

Christian means believer in Christ. If you are a messianic Jew than you are considered Christian which means you believe that Christ was the fulfillment of the Jewish religion.

A Christian is a follower of Christ. His teachings and He is He Himself. You will know Him by what He taught and continue to teach. Inside His teachings are His Jewish roots. He came in order to complete the Jewish faith. Inasmuch as He completed the Jewish faith and His Jewish roots are contained in His teachings then it is not necessary anymore that you be Jewish.
Follow His teachings if you wish to be a Christian.

Glad you are seeking answers! Jesus was Jewish, but with His coming, he started Christianity and a new covenant (agreement/testament) with all who follow Him and his teachings. By doing this Christ set aside or made no longer valid the Jewish/old testament teachings.

Yes he was Jewish, however he was also the Son of God and Christians believe he died for their sins so that is why we follow him.
The bible also says that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one shall enter the kingdom of Heaven except through him!

Yes. It means that we follow his teachings and apply them to our lives. But Jesus didn't 'follow' the Jewish faith. He fullfilled it.
