it says :

The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is to love and be loved in return.
~ From "Unforgettable with Love" by Natalie Cole

Also, i tried searching for the song by natalie cole that contains this particular line but i cant seem to find it...why is that??
it seems that "unforgettable with love" is not a song but an album by natalie cole...so where did this line came from even though it was quoted by her?

The line plays a key part in the movie "Moulin Rouge", sung by John LeGuizamo among others. Maybe you'll have better luck searching for it there.

As for meaning, I think it's quite clear and self-explanatory - that the greatest lesson in this life is to love someone and be loved in return. I don't agree with it, the greatest thing you'll ever learn, IMHO, is to love without thinking of what you might get in return.

THis is what i think the phrase means:
In this world it is very easy for a person to acquire things like money, house, status , job etc, but one think that money can't buy is love, that to true love. We live in a word today where love has been reduceed to nothing more than a passing afffair , in such a situation where everyone loves the other for a reason, it is indeed great to be loved by someone for just love and no other reason and even great to reciprocate that love to someone you care for just one reason that you love the person and not because you would expect something in return.
It is great to be loved unconditionally in this world today.

hope it answers your doubt

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE LINES FROM THE SONG "NATURE BOY."
The QUOTE, actually is a line from a song sung by her father, NAT KING COLE.
To undersatnd the meaning of these lines, u have to listen to his song.
Here i have the lyrics for you!!

Artist: Nat King Cole
-from his "The Greatest Of Nat King Cole" LP-Capitol SLB-6803
-peak Billboard position # 1 for 8 weeks in 1948
--Words and Music by Eden Ahbez

There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he

And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"

It might help if you understand that God is referred to as LOVE and his plan for this earth was to love unconditionally. Scripture says "owe no man anything but to love him. In 1 corinthians 13 it tells of the perfect love. Love is patient, love is kind, it doesn't boast, it doesn't think of itself. Basically if you love that way and you are loved by people that way, you will be completely satisfied. But to LEARN that type of love will take all the effort you can manage. When you do learn it, you will be the happiest person on earth. True love is totally unselfish and full of genuine care. It is hard to do that even though God expects it of us. God was the perfect example of that type of love and Jesus was the second perfect example. "For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believed in him would not die but have everlasting life." Then his son, Jesus, came and died for eveyone so that they could have that chance at heaven. He was free from sin when he died for us, yet he was crucified just because of what he taught, which was how to love perfectly without reservation, without greed, without attitude, without being selfish. We are taught that we are to love others as we love ourselves but if we are very selfish and greedy and have attitudes, then that is exactly how we will treat others and that is the type of love we will produce to others. Natalie Cole is referring to the true genuine love and if you learn it, you will be blessed and also be a blessing to others. Love comes from two greek words: Agape and Fileo. Agape is genuine heart love that you give without question or expecting any in return. Fileo is physical attraction love that you 'feel' and expect to receive back.
