One time a guest asked Srila Prabhupada why Krsna is blue, here is his answer:
Guest: I have a question. I was wondering why Krsna is always portrayed as being blue.
Prabhupäda: Why the sky is blue? Can you explain?
Guest: Because the sky is blue?
Prabhupäda: Yes, why the sky is blue? First of all, you try to explain this. This is you are seeing every day. Can you explain? You don't? You cannot? Sky is blue! That's all! Therefore it is blue. Krsna is blue! Therefore He's blue. (laughter)
Prabhupäda: Sky is the reflection of Krsna's bodily effulgence; therefore it is blue.
Similarly krsna took birth in astami why? because He was born in astami. that's all.

Birth of Lord Krishna on ASTAMI DAY
Krishna was born during the Krishna Paksha (the dark fortnight of the month). The effulgence of the Lord is seen with greater effect when it is dark. In a world of disorder, Krishna was born to establish order. He was born on Ashtami day. Ashtami is associated with troubles and difficulties. When do troubles arise? When righteousness is forgotten. Krishna’s advent therefore signifies removal of darkness, end of troubles and effulgence of Supreme Wisdom.

There is no particular reason for the day of Sri Krishna's Birth.
Suppose he was born on Dasami instead of Krishnaastami we will celebrate Krisnadasami.
Then too you will ask ''why Krishna was born on Dasami?

Lord Krishna's birth is related to ASTOLOGY. Ashtami thithi in solar month is favorable., 8th day of new moon. Rohini star. Cotraversy in date of birth.

there is nothing special on astami. The thing is that he has to birth now no issue wat the day is if his birth is on saptmi then we celebrate janmasaptmi, and so on..
