I temp for a big company & get asked to come back quite often to be their temp sec. I'm in booking at the moment where I've always known the boss to be offhand (his perm sec has told me). However, he's always been nice to me. He'll say to me, "Don't be nervous to approach me on the phone" & "Let's walk over to the other building together & I'll give you my tape to type". He used to be pretty friendly & just give the occasional tap on the shoulder as his greeting (nothing more than friendly). Sometimes I can see him looking at me at the corner of my eye from another desk. He's complimented me on one occasion how good my typing is. However, I've seen another side to him of late. I went to the toilet & when I got back he had taken my chair, sat on it at another desk (a pet hate of mine) & I was left standing at my desk! It took several minutes for him to give it me back. He was quite curt.

When he had left our office, my colleague said, "He asked me where you were and didn't even ask you by your name. He just asked me "Where is SHE?" Who's she, the cat's mother?

People are sometimes moody and especially if they are in a position of authority. They seem to think it gives them the right to mistreat others.
Your boss may have been just having a bad day and took it out on you. Since you've always done a good job and been invited back, I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably more about him and his problems than you. Do your job, and don't let him make you feel badly because he'll probably be making someone else's life miserable tomorrow. Good luck

He's having an off day, we all have them!

When one works as a temp bosses have a different expectation of us that stems from a much hiher hourly rate he has to pay for you in order that the agency get a cut. Usually he will have to settle the agency weekly even if you are paind monthly. your salary will be presented for payment three to four times more a months than his regular employees. His brain computes this as you get three to four times their salary. That's how brains work.

I have worked as a temp and in order to counteract the above the temp has to firstly be a model worker allways visble, quick to offer help and always accurate, prompt and polite. You have to give much, much more than the regulars. You also have to become indispensible in his eyes and be totally above office politics.

Temp work is your choice and you can either see the above as a nightmare or a challenge. Take up the challenge and you'll develope a fantastic work ethic and become a fantastic employee that everyone wants or join the ho hum regulars. I always loved being wanted so I took up the challenge and I've not been sorry.

Bosses are just people. They are vulnerable to greedy, lazy employees. When he saw you were away from your desk he probably had a momentary panic. All you need to do if this happens is reassure him by telling you had urgent woman's business to attend to and now you need your chair to geet back on with his work.

In business time is money.

That sucks. I hate it when work has to be more complicated than it needs to be. He has no reason to HATE you, everyone needs to go pee at some point in the day. He probably just came over looking for you, and you weren't there so he got a little upset. He probably took your chair to get your attention.

I think you should just keep you head down and get on with your work and ignore him. I think he's trying to found out more about you by the way he acts. I think so anyway. I'm no psychologist however.

He likes you but is afraid to make it clear for fear losing his job.

Like when a little boy likes a girl and can only pull her hair or throw things at her.

Don't make too much of it. It sounds like he's just full of himself and doesn't have a problem with you. He's just not considerate. Too important, I guess.
