Ok, he is 12 and is in no position to make food choices. Even adult vegetarians can have health issues and have to figure out how to get all of the proper nutrients. But a growing 12 year old?
You can talk to him of course but you have to put a stop to it and stop trying to cater to him w. special meals. It's similar to familes that have to make several different things because each child will only eat certain things. The heck w. that.
No you make one meal and that is what everyone eats...... period. No snacks, desserts or anything otherwise. If he refuses to eat he has to just sit there until evryone else is finished. No going to his room and playing video games and watching TV. A few days of that and all of this will end.

he's going through one of the veggie phases, I did too.
tell him that he is going to have to eat vegetables.
if you want to get him out of it just make a big meaty meal and only give him rice or potatoes.
it he is really making a life change support him. in the frozen food section by the organics there will be fake meat. load up on that, there are buggers hot dogs "chicken" nuggets ribs and tons of stuff. but to keep your son healthy he is going to have to eat veggies. learn to cook with tofu it's the best!
make him do some of the work too, because he is making you have to cook two meals tell him he is going to have to take on some of the cooking.
I went through that phase twice once when I was 11 and then again when I was15 but then I stayed a vegetarian till to day at the age of 18.

You have to sit down with him and discuss how he thinks he will survive if he won't eat anything. Visit some of the good vegetarian websites-there are bunches-and pick out some recipes together that he would be willing to try. This will also help him realize that, meat or no, he cannot be healthy without eating vegetables.

If he won't eat meat, and he won't eat vegetables, looks like you will be saving a fortune on the grocery bill.
Ask him what he will eat, then tell him about the vegetable and animal material in it.
If you really want to tantalize him, grill up a nice juicy steak, or roast a tasty, fragrant beef or pork roast.
I'll bet you a soda pop that his taste buds overcome TV input.

Sure I used to be a vegetarian for almost 15 years I have lots of recipes.
If he eats pasta, make him spaghetti with mushrooms in a white sauce and add a little cheese. Mushrooms are high in protein and a good food to eat.
Another idea is is to rub a fillet of cod with chinese five spice powder and a little salt, shallow fry in olive oil, garlic and chopped ginger until flaky serve with brown rice.
My personal favorite is spinach and mushroom pita pizza. He won't care there's veggies on it. Get a pita bread, put some ragu on the pita and place on a greased baking tray. In a frying pan cook 3 chopped mushrooms in Olive oil and 2 cups of spinach until the spinach wilts, place on top of the ragu sauce top with mozzerella cheese, add a pinch of black pepper, and oregano.
Serve plenty of fruit, milk and nuts are esseential for a vegetarian who is still growing.
Oh baked beans on toast is also great, lots of protein in beans!

Hate to say it but you need to make him realise that if he isn't eating meat he MUST eat vegetables. I would prepare healthy vegetarian meals, experiment with different pulses and veggies. At the end of the day if he is not prepared to change his eating ways his health will suffer!

Bocca burgers are good non meat burgers.
Also I remember reading about Melasian monks who vowed never to eat meat once they became monks, but they missed it so much they invented an entire way of cooking tofu, shitakki muchrooms and other fruits and veggies that had the texture and taste of meat, but I cant remember who they were.... maybe you can google them,
good Luck,
Jer

You will need to ask your pediatrician and nutritional expert to make sure your son has a good diet (while still in his formative years). Get advice from an expert on this one. Your son's future heatlh is on the line here.

Yeah this is a tough one.
Still he's 12 so just do as he asks and don't feed him anything, he'll get hungry soon enough and you'll catch him making double ham sandwiches in no time.
Or rice. Lot's of rice and stir fried veges.
