i'm just interested to see what everyone else chose . i can't decide what color to pick , at first i was thinking pastel colors like light pink, or light blue . but then i thought i should have a brighter color. i really like pastels but i think it draws attention away from my dress . having brighter colors for the bridesmaids dresses would make my dress stand out more, what are your thoughts ?

My maids are wearing Chocolate brown. Remember, that you want your maids to wear the dress and not the dress wear the maids. With that said, brighter colors might look pretty but it might stand out tooo much. You're idea with the pastels is a good one. Go with your gut feeling and ask your maids opinion. I wanted Burnt Orange dresses also and the maids didn't like the way it looked on them but loved the chocolate(it's hard to argue with 8 maids! lol). But i agreed with them that the burnt orange didn't look right. So, they all are wearing the same chocolate dress with different shoes, jewelery, and bouquets. Stick with lighter color pastels flowers as well. Although i could be wrong not seeing it in person. You're maids might look good in the bright colors and pastel flowers. Experiment. Experiment. Experiment. Sorry i couldn't be much more help. Good luck and congrats.

I don't think that any color would really draw away from your dress -- you're the bride, after all! Unless, of course, you chose a horrendous lime green or something equally harsh to the eye. Then you might have a problem. :-) But pastels can work in pretty much any wedding, and brighter colors look nice too. My bridesmaids are wearing a copper/bronze/redwood type of color for our fall wedding. One thing I do suggest is that in addition to being sure that the dresses you pick suit your girls (as far as their build, skin tone, etc.) do your best to pick a color that also compliments your own skin tone. This will make for a better picture with the maids. Good luck!

My bridesmaids wore lovely blue velvet, trimmed with pink sashes, the flowers were pink, white, trimmed with pink bow streamers of satin, it was lovely. Bright colors would make the bridesmaids stand out over the bride, pastels give a washed out feeling to the wedding. I have also heard of a wedding where the bridesmaids used a lovely darker wine color, with pink trim. Just a thought. Good luck and happy wedding day.

my MOH wore a bright blue - I let her choose it herself just as long as it somewhere matched along with the varying shades of blue I used in the rest of my decorations. I had no other bridesmaids.
Historically, bridesmaids were supposed to be just like the bride to help protect the bride against evil spirts, kidnapping, etc. But of course, now they are supposed to put a pretty backdrop to the wedding, without stealing the brides thunder. Seasonally, pastels are for spring/summer, and darker colors are for fall/winter, but honestly, there are no set rules. Do what you want (and your bridesmaids will agree with), it is your day, and no one will really say anything about a color being out of season unless they have bad manners (good manners dictates that it is the worst manners to comment on someone elses disregard or lack of manners! so they are the worst offender if they dare comment!)

Good luck, and have fun!

I chose red bridesmaid's dresses to go with my flowers. I am having red and yellow roses wich the decorations will all match as well. I know red and yellow dont go together well but I hope to do it tastefully by having a pale yellow only as an accent colour and my main reason for choosing theese flowers is red roses mean love and yellow roses mean friendship and that is exactly what a wedding day is about. I also have Cala Lillies in my bouquet wich are my favorite flower and mean beauty.

I had pink with silver down the back. It looked lovely, and very original too.

I will be wearing a lavender color as a bridesmaid soon. A strong colored pale purple will make your dress stand out.

My bridesmaids are wearing a burgundy color for my fall wedding. My dress is ivory and I think the two colors will compliment each other. I would not worry about their dresses standing out more, the attention is on the bride anyway. Good luck! :)

Anything pastel is good. No pink or purple, though. A simple black dress with white shoes and white belts and jewelry looks nice.
Have all of the girls get together and go shopping with you, this way you can get an idea of what everyone likes and if you have bigger women they can find something flattering for themselves, too.

I really had nothing in mind before going shopping with my bridesmaids. It was for a July wedding - so pretty much just wanted to make sure there would be happy colours.
They (and me) totally fell in love with a printed dress - it was a pretty, summery style of dress - puff sleeves, scoop neck, crossed straps at the back, dropped waist, full skirt, tea-length. It was white, with little sprigs of flowers on it - which kind of looked like they were painted with watercolours - in pink, yellow, lilac and light teal. They were SO beautiful!
So, those were our wedding colours, then!
There were four women, and four men in our wedding party. Each couple had an accessory 'colour' - for example, the pink bridesmaid had a wreath of pink flowers in her hair, and pink ribbons were trailing from her bouquet. Her corresponding groomsman had a pink bowtie and cummerbund with his light grey tux.
With all this colour, it definitely made for a pretty and very happy-looking bridal party, and wedding! The colours were fun to decorate with as well.
Don't worry about your attendants outshining you - it just won't happen!
Good luck!
