Also, are there any programs to help people with criminal records find employment again?

My best friend is a recovering drug addict but her mom and her mom's boyfriend still use drugs. She won'ts to get away so she won't be tempted to use anymore, but she can't find a job because of her criminal background. I am trying to find her a place to stay until she can find a job and get an apartment.

I found these two on the web. I do not know if they are the kind she needs, however it would not hurt to give them a call. They may be able to tell you where to get assistance if they are not what she needs. The first is Maurin Day House, phone: 361-883-7372, The second one is Search For Truth Mission, phone:361-882-4143

Couldn't hurt to try to get info from these sources!
May the Lord bless you and your friend!

Call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at our Our Lady of the Assumption
(361) 775-2040.

Vincentians are well networked into all sorts of social programs and should be able to give your friend some guidance.

Usually If you can find an N/A meeting (narcotics anonymous) or an A/A (alcoholics anonymous) they will be glad to help and there all over. Try the local police department for locations. Theres usually meetings all day long. They may even have a place where she can stay and work. Worth a try! GOOD LUCK!!
