It's not true. Read the label and the ingrediants

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard, dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. The problems with it are that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Most of the moisture a cat needs is gotten
out of the food and 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Also, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Please read about cat nutrition.

Cats have a habit of getting themselves into trouble - curiosity and all that - so it is hard to make generalisations about age. The ones in our family (that haven't had accidents etc) have all been between 18-21 when they died.

The best way to extend the life of any pet is to feed it a species appropriate diet, ensure it is a healthy weight, keep all vaccinations up to date and seek veterinary help when necessary.

My three cats eat a raw diet of meat, edible bones (chicken wings, necks etc) and offal. My 15 year old girl is glossy and has a mouth full of sparkly white teeth and pink gums. On the occasions that they do have commercial food I use evo by innova. Cats are obligate carnivores - they NEED meat and cannot digest grains and vegetables. Science Diet is loaded with inappropriate ingredients for both cats and dogs.

OHHH...Come-On People!! Yeah, and my cats all live to be over 20 because I feed them "Science-Diet". CRAPPOLLA!!
Cats have been living over the ages of 25 and more for millions of years without some man-made commercial money-making scam. PULEEEEZE!!
Cats eat food. They always have, and they always will. Give them food. They will eat it, and they will live long lives.
If any creature is unhappy, or stressed, that creature will die early. Now that's real stuff. Keep your cat happy, comfortable, and let them eat what they want.
You put me on "Science-Diet" and I would claw your eyes outta your skull. I like food, and so has my family. The majority of my elderly family have lived past 100 years old, and nobody ate tofu and soy. We're just funny people. Laughing is the best.
It is a matter of mental health that makes the difference between longevity, and death. Be happy, be funny. The most useful vitamins in the universe.
My cats are hilarious, and they purr loudly.
Science diet. Heh Heh.

Science Diet is a very good food brand but there are lots of others that are equally good. Just read the labels and ask your vet what he thinks. Here's a good website that has done some comparisons.

I started my cat out on Science Diet then went to a less expensive food like Purina ONE. It was always a dry food until she got older then I decided on Science Diet Senior canned food since it's easier on their digestion. She died at the age of 26. Not typical of most cats.

Compared to what? If the alternative is feeding them crappy WalMart food, then yes they'll probably live longer on Science Diet. There are other brands which are probably just as good; consult your vet for more information about what's best for *your* cat.

There are much better quality cat foods than Science Diet. Try Innova.

Absolutely NOT. SD is inferior, overpriced food.

By feeding good food, you can decrease the likelihood of diseases which in turn will likely cause the cat to live a longer, happier life.

But SD isn't one of those foods.

It is true only because Science Diet is a way better food for your animal and it will help keep them healthy. I would say it would but a year or more on your animals life by feeding them healthy food.
