If chiropractic is not giving him long term relief after several treatments, he need to be evaluated by a healthcare provider who willorder the proper test and give him the treatments that are approprite for his care.

He should at least see his family doctor and determine if further evaluation is required.

Have him try walking forward on his heels, and backwards on his tiptoes. If in doing either, one foot drops or appears weaker, it may be a herniated disc touching or squeezing a nerve. An MRI can confirm. Epidural injections of a steroid and a local anesthetic are used to help if there is inflammation, and confirm it is a nerver at the level they inject at. (If the anesthetic stops the pain, it is the nerve producing it.)

A short course of narcotic pain killers like vicodin, and a muscle relaxant like cyclobenzaprine can break a bad pain cycle. (Where muscle spasms cause back pain, and the back pain causes tension which causes more spasms, repeat.)

In short, there are a LOT of causes of back pain, and a lot of treatments. For the short term, I would go to a doctor you have an established relationship with, explain the problem, and that you have been seeing a chiropractor, but it only helps for short periods. Even without insurance, one dr. visit a month and a prescription for old drugs (and most of the pain drugs are, but be sure to ask for cheap) are cheaper than weekly chiro visits.

Chiropractors don't work for everybody and can only do so much. He needs to see an MD first for X-rays to determine if there is anything structural wrong with his back that requires surgery. If not, there are a number of conventional and alternative methods to get chronic pain under control, including electrical stimulation, meds, acupuncture and so on.

He needs to broaden his treatment options but he needs to start with an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in backs first. Then go from there.

this may be some sort of back pain, causing by something called PID (Prolapse Intervertebrae Disc). Should get a MRI lower back done to see whether is true or not, get consultation from an orthopaedic surgeon.

chiropractors are useless ! he needs to do physical therapy.he can find out what exercises for his specific area of pain here in this book.http://www.amazon.com/Treat-Your-Back-Robin-McKenzie/dp/0958269238/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-8163448-7733438?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189082208&sr=1-1
the only other treatment option is to find out what is causing the pain with an MRI and a discgram and do surgical intervention.I did 2 artifical discs and it basically saved my life.i suffered for 10 yrs. good luck !

Not to put down chiropractors but, in my opinion, they are only good for patients with healthy and good bones. The manipulating, etc that they do on patients can be very harmful to people who have permanent and traumatic injuries. Manipulating healthy bones opposed to injured or diseased bones makes a big difference and I believe it can add injury to injury. Be careful who you see for manipulations. Good luck!

There is no medicine for such problems. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine.
Acupuncture is the best treatment, try first.
I feel that his problem is from worry, pl confirm and if true pl tell him not to worry.
Our Meruniwarak Therapy treats it within 10 mins also, but he will have to come here.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; WORRY, spicy food, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, excessive sex and alcohole.

Go to a new chiropracter. Ice and exercise help also. Moving around is necessary or the muscles tighten. Lastly, pain medicine can help in extreme cases.
