I asked if anyone else thought the hijab made women look hot (Prolly a poor choice of words) meaning I think it looks very pretty on them, and was told repeatedly that its intent was to make them not look hot... I understand modesty but... isnt there a difference between looking attractive and being modest?

Also...Wala... if you are out there, I apologize, didnt mean to come off overly harsh.

I appreciate the fact that you think hijab on a woman can look pretty. Nobody wants to appear unattractive, not even Muslim women.

The reason why many Muslim women prefer the hijab is to maintain decency and modesty... and it's true that sometimes the hijab actually makes them look attractive, but not in the 'hot and sexy' sense.

At our graduation party last summer, I was the only female wearing the hijab, and believe it or not.... I actually was voted 'Lady of the Evening'. It was a complete surprise for me, because as a person who observes hijab, my intentions are to dress in a way so as not to catch the eye of the opposite sex. So, yes... hijab can look pretty on woman.

Women CAN be pretty whether they wear a hijab or not. No difference really. Saying a woman in a hijab is hot would probably be offensive tho. These woman while individuals, are following their faith by dressing modestly AND looking attractive at the same time. However these ladies do not want men to look at them in a way that would be thought of as sexual and the word "hot" definetely has sexual meaning. Just be more careful of your choice of words in future.

Why would a woman with beautiful dark hair and eyes be jealous of a blond? A blond may catch your eye for a moment, and convince herself she's a knock-out, unaware that a flashing red light on her head would have the same effect. It's just like the woman who uses a short skirt to get glances, and convinces herself that means that she's beautiful. Blond hair gets glances, but nothing more. A beautiful dark-haired, dark-eyed woman will capture your attention, and your heart, and you'll think about her for the rest of the day, and maybe days afterwards, wondering who is in there, and what it would be like to look into those eyes without saying a word, just breathing, and longing. She doesn't need to wear a short skirt, she has real sensuality, something you'll almost never find in a blond.

See, the whole point of the hijab is to cover or conceal what makes a woman attractive.. Unfortunately alot of sisters make it counterproductive by putting on makeup and whatnot, bright eye catching hijab is an oxymoron. But its hard for women to conceal what makes them beautiful, because shoot, we're women!! I wear a veil, because one of the most attractive things about a woman is, her face. I always look nice, still wear my makeup and all that. I just became comfortable with the ideal that I don't need strangers to know that I look nice. And that is difficult for most women to subscribe to, whether they admit it or not.

There is also a difference between being attractive and being HOT. One of the purposes of hijab is so that men are not tempted by us etc. We are to be acknowledged for our minds and our actions not our bodies.

As with anything though, some women look horrid in hijab (if you are comparing them to some supermodel) but look great when they take it off. Others still look good with it on.

C'est la vie.

edit:
SDW, and this is why men are to lower their gaze as well. I said LOWER it!....LOWER....LOWER STILL....keep going!

This is not meant to be offensive, so please nobody take it so--but the less I get to see, the more that is left to my imagination.

The purpose as I understand it is that only her husband is to be allowed to look upon the Muslim woman, and the hijab is so that other men will not be able to see the woman's face and therefore not fantasize about them. We see by my statement above JUST how well this works in reality!

If you see a woman and you think she is beautiful, she will still be beautiful whether or not she is wearing hijab.

a woman in hijab is only saving to flaunt ALL of her beauty in front her husband only, because there is a lot more beauty to behold underneath her covering.

well, of course us Muslim women don't cover in front of other women, or men who are not allowed to marry us. But we can only show our un-clothed bodies in front of our husbands only.

hijab isn't about making us look ugly. It is simply to dress modestly and hide our full "charms" from others.

wearing hijab is to stop some one from looking at you and lusting at a woman. It will make one look dignified and it doesnt mean that they re not pretty.

i think it's because you made out of Hijab something opposite to the reason why some Muslim women wear it.
