I'm including recipes for some research on hypertension and was wondering if the following two dishes would assist in preventing or reducing the risk of getting hypertension (eg: low salt levels).

1) Omelette:
* 1 egg
* 2 egg whites
* 45g low-fat cheddar cheese
* ¼ c chopped green/red bell peppers
* ¼ c chopped tomato

2) Wrap:
* Canola cooking spray
* 4 eggs
* 4 sheets wholemeal lavash bread
* 2 tbs reduced-fat cream cheese
* 50g baby spinach leaves, washed
* 1 large avocado, sliced
* 2 vine ripened tomatoes, sliced
* Cracked black pepper to taste

Can anyone help me?
Thanks :)

If you're worried about the long-term risk of getting hypertension, they're both fine. The second is pretty high in calories compared to the first, but if it were the main meal of the day, I think it might be ok. I'd be inclined to reduce the amount a bit. If you get heavier, you'll increase your risk of hypertension development. Similarly, if you eat too much saturated fat without compensating exercise (or with, depending on genetics), you'll likely get cholesterol buildup and narrower arteries and higher blood pressure.

In the short-term, salt matters more because it increases liquid levels in the body, and cheese is pretty high in salt. I don't think it would be problematic if the rest of your day were low in salt (or at all, if you didn't have hypertension anyway).

you should cut out salt altogether, [I found that adding more pepper and chili sauce helped] it will take a while to get use to it, but it isn't too hard, I have been doing it for years, but unfortunately have never been able to get over the eggs and tomatoes with no salt, just use very sparingly on items that you can't get past. both of your recipies sound great but I would suggest you cut out the items you have problems with, I would cut out eggs and tomatoes to begin with and then regulate, there are lots more recipies available, feed low salt into your search engine and go from there

explore and enjoy good luck

if you're concerned about salt, then item 2 probably has the lower salt content with the 2 tablespoons of cream cheese.

The 45 grams of cheddar might have more salt.

The key to controlling hypertension is exercise and losing weight. Salt is secondary, but you still need to watch your salt intake.
