I do not judge any religion. In the Bible all will get worse before things get better. Therefore, I am just focus in acquiring accurate knowledge of Truth from God's Word, the Bible, by applying this Truth to my daily life, and by helping spread the good news of His Kingdom for this Kingdom has the solution to all of our problems.

I think it is more accurate to state that due to advances in information sharing, news media getting more braen, various scandals breaking into government dealing with resolution, today we know a lot more about church affairs than was known in past times.
Thus corruption was largely hidden in historical times, and now coming to light of day. We probably still do not know the full extent of it, or whether it has been like this for the entire history of the church. We may never know.

Dear Scambuster,
i don't know if there is anyone who actually keeps statistics and i guess you would have to categorize what you called corruption- but i think it is a fair statement to say that in recent times the church has gotten more "bad press" than good press.
First- i think many churches have turned away from God's word. There are times when seeking to be "user-friendly" (the conception of most non-believers- is the Bible is boring-- but part of the church's responsibility is to teach people God's word- and it doesn't have to be boring in their approach). I always find following God's plan is much better than following our own plans.
Secondly, the Bible also says that in the last days that wickedness would increase including more false christs, etc. The Bible warns us of this- not to scare us or be all "doomsday like" but to warn individuals how to wisely choose a church (how many people have had one bad experience in church- and have concluded that all churches are like that). The truth is there are churches who are Biblical and those who are not-- and God's word instructs us how to discern so that we will not be fooled or misled.
It points to the fact that people need the Lord more and more.
Kindly,
Nickster

In my opinion, there's far less corruption than at many other points in history. Have you ever studied church history from the Middle Ages? Things are a lot better than they were back in those times. Sure, there's still some corruption, it's nothing like the "good old days".

There isn't. There has always been greed, corruption, lying, and cheating. The difference is that we are a connected world now. We have communications that bring us news from all over the world. We are inundated with negative information on a daily basis. It can seem overwhelming but we just have to make the decision each day to be the best possible people we can so that we can make a positive influence in the world. All the best.

i second solarius and other posters - you are assuming that there is more corruption then before, but yet you cannot measure corruption consistently from generation to generation.
one of the things to remember also is that 50-70 years ago people kept quite, but today there is an assault on christianity from all fronts, including "media" front - when all world newspapers are writing about what some small dude in 20 people church did, and are saying that whole church is like that.

There isn't; if anything, the Church (assuming you mean the Roman Catholic Church) is less corrupt now than it was throughout much of its history. There's more exposure of misdeeds which previously were unknown or covered up.
Bear in mind also that where corruption is concerned, 'the Church' refers mostly to the administrative structure and leadership; the majority of the laity and local clergy are not involved with it.

Because they have turned away from God's Word. You should refer to them as religious churches, not Christian. They are more concern with humanism because that gets the bigger crowds. Why are they more concern with the crowds, more money. The Bakkers and the PTL were/are prove of that.
Up Date:
solarius, it's worst now than ever before. If you read the Bible, God said that this would happen.
TigerLily, if there was only one book I was willing to read, I would read the one about Billy Graham. Otherwise, anyone of them is worth reading:
"Billy Graham and His Friends," by Dr. Cathy Burns
"Blinded by Benny," by Greg Locke
"The Truth About Tongues and the Charismatic Movement," by Dr. Hugh Pyle
"Unmasking the New Age Movement," by Dr.Clarence Sexton
Up Date:
Nickster (9 below me), I'll agree that it part of the church's responsibility is to teach people God's word. But for the most part, it is the husband and/or father responsibility to teach the family and everyone as individuals to read the Bible for themselves. Why else would the Bible read:
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15
"Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read:" Isaiah 34:16
One reason it is so necessary to learn God's Word, is so when your church loses it's pastor (for whatever reason), you will know if the one applying for the position qualifies to take his place. This is one of the biggest reasons why churches become corrupted because no one knows who qualifies and who don't.
A prime example of this would be some of the Baptist churches in North GA playing with rattlesnakes claiming that if God is with you or that you are filled with the Holy Spirit, the snakes are not going to be able to bite you or they won't hurt you if they do. Talk about taking the Bible out of contents and just plain foolishness...!!!

The Church is a business it is there to make money for the (Chosen Few??) and like any business the more corruption the more they can make. I do not know of any poor religions.
The more they have the more they want.

I'm not sure there is. Vile as the Church is, historically it has been even more vile.
At various stages there have been multiple pope's at once fighting each other for power, pope's that ran brothels, religious leaders (like Charlemagne) who carried out conversions by murdering those whoe would not convert (principally Germans). The list goes on and on.
So yes, the Church is bad, but boy has it been worse.
