It will depend upon state laws at what age a person can legally have ownership of a vehicle. State laws can differ from one state to the next regarding the minimum age they will permit a person to own a motor vehicle.

In general though a juvenile cannot enter into a contract so thus cannot be a sole owner of a motor vehicle. A minor cannot normally actually own property. His or her parents technically own that property. If a parent will co-sign on a loan for a car, the juvenile can buy a car, but the parent will be the legal owner.

Also for cost effectiveness it would be best for car to to registered to adult for lower insurance costs.

I happen to know of a minor who owns a large company. Parents were killed in a car accident and the company went to the minor. He does not run the company, but he is the sole owner. Just because the minor cant legally drive doesn't mean he cant own a car. I owned my first truck at age of 14. I drove it on my dads farm but never hit the streets until I turned 16.

Sure, they could (illegally) put the title in their name if the person selling it didn't check their age. But minors can't legally own property in their name, so it would be considered an asset of their parents or legal guardian until they turned 18.

Cars are just property so yes, you could. Driving it on the street is another thing--you have to have a license and insurance for that.
