Because there was a high pressure system that was sitting over Southern California. It has now moved East because a low pressure system from the Northwest moved in. That is why the marine layer is now cooling us off and why we have clouds and fog in the morning.

Short term variations in local areas are caused by the weather. The weather is created by a multitude of different things all interacting with one another, this is why it can change quickly and why it can be raining in one place but down the road it's sunny.
Global warming has a role to play in determining the weather but it's a slow and progressive change and affects the weather on a global scale.
