There is nothing wrong with the human body! I live in a very religious town in the desert. Most people do wear shorts. Is this forbidden in your book as well?
Yep, swimsuits don't leave much to the imagination. What do you propose? Segregated swimming or no swimming at all?
There's also something to be said about hiding behind clothing. It covers many insecurities along with your body.

I do not see that simply the act of being unclothed is disrespectful or immodest if it is APPROPRIATE TO the situation. If a woman is swimming, then she should be wearing a swimsuit.
It is the WAY that the woman presents herself and the PURPOSE BEHIND IT that is either modest or immodest. The statue of the Venus de Milo is not an immodest one, but the WAY a modern STRIPPER presents herself often is.
The reason for the mandate is less because of the immodesty of women than because men often use the lack of clothing on women to excues their lack of self-control.....

May be cover mean have a secret or have hidden dangerous weapon. This is just our instinct so when you see some one cover body more than us we will have doubt that it may be dangerous thing. but with someone exposure their bodies we will see them as no danger with us.
I think this instinct is up to when or where. So we may better dress to fit with a place.
If some one dress a heavy cover in some where that not suitable to dress that cover for the not sensible reason, so some other one may fun to them.

If a woman freely chooses to cover herself out of respect for her religion, that should be respected. No woman should be forced to do so.
Women should dress sensibly in public, as the place and situation merits. The mall is not the same as the beach.

We are a society that wears clothes.
Are we talking about covering a woman's body or forcing her to wear clothes?
There is an expression, "in Rome, do as the Romans".
Frankly, God does not care about clothing as about heart.
Answer: Being backward is never a positive.

if it is your choice to wear what you do. then i support your choice. (admire it to some degree)
however if you do it just because you have been told to all of your life. or because someone says that your book says to do it...then you are not free. and are not making your own decisions.
can you tell give me the passage in teh Holy Quran that tells you to cover your entire body. and is it vague, does it leave anything up for debate?
and as far as the women that wear swimsuits...did GOD not make us all Naked. were we born with cloths? or even given them on our creation? No. so it was not God that wanted us to wear cloths. in fact cloths come from the Sin of Adam and Eve. because before that we knew no shame. and covered nothing. and that was describes as a perfect and sinless enviroment.
so you should not look down on them. because they are doing nothing wrong.

I think it boils down to what you were raised in. If you were born in a muslim country, you can be sure the exposure of female flesh would be talked about. If, however, you were born in a christain dominated country (ie: the USoA) you'd make a big deal about the reverse. Right or wrong it boils down to brainwashing. Just depends on which brand of brainwashing you got.

I think both examples are disturbing. Covering up to an extreme is just as bad as wearing too little clothing. Both examples are "Extremes"...Somewhere in the middle of the two is the acceptable answer.

People make light of what they don't understand.
Personally I choose to dress modest,..
I have been told that also is a sign of assuredness, high self esteem,..
Many use their body exposure to measure up for what they lack in wisdom...and then again,.. some are just unlearned.
