Iced tea. And when it make it yourself, it's pennies a glass. Tea bags, sugar, water, lemon...done! I like to use specialty teas for something more exotic.
My recipe is:
2 pitchers of water (beer pitchers)
5 Lipton Yellow Label Tea Bags or 5 Lady Grey Tea Bags
Pour the water into your biggest pot, bring to a boil.
add the tea bags and let them boil for about a min.
remove the bags and add sugar to taste.
let it cool down and then refrigerate.
Add a slice of lemon and enjoy!
Note: Never put the tea in the fridge hot, it will get cloudy
and if you use Tetley tea, only use 3 bags..it tends to be really strong.

Crystal Light has come out with flavors to pour into bottled water. They are sweetened with aspartame and have no calories. They are little tubes of powder drink flavorings, and come in a box of 8 or 10. Can be found in the KoolAid aisle. At least in my neighborhood store. Many different flavors, also some are labeled as antioxidants. Some are "light". I think they are between $3.-$4. per box. I don't like plain water, either, and I have cut out all regular sodas, due to the high sugar content. I find these flavors are thirst quenching on a hot day with lots of ice. I don't buy bottled water, but mix this up with either 16 or 20 ounces of my good tap water. My personal favorite(at least this week) is Honey Lemon Green Tea flavor. Some stores have their own brand of drink mixes, which are cheaper, and the ones I have tried taste the same as Crystal Light. I buy Roundy's brand because that's my store's brand.

Try adding some lemon juice to the water, or even powdered lemonade mix.
I also find tea to be very good for quenching a thirst.
An ice cold beer is also a great thirst quencher, though not appropriate under all circumstances.

Unsweetened iced tea is my choice for a thirst quencher. If you've been sweating alot, you might want it sweetened with sugar or with lemonade. Tea bags don't cost much and you can brew it yourself and then keep it in the fridge for a few days. I like to put some sprigs of fresh mint in with the tea bags when I brew it to change the taste.

Look into adding flavorings to water... or buying those crystal light to-go packets. Iced tea is good, but I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't add sweetening to it.
Propel and Gatorade are FITNESS supplements. They're meant to be used while exercising to aid in replenishing electrolytes and they contain some sugar. Propel also contains a metabolism-enhancer that has been known to kill small children who drink too much. Unless you're spending your day slogging through cement or some other such labor-intensive activity, I'd avoid over-using them.

Seltzer water with a splash of fruit juice in it. Cran-raspberry is my personal favorite, but whatever kind you like. You can usually get a 2 liter bottle of seltzer for around 75 cents and a bottle of juice for two dollars or so on sale. Iced tea rocks too. If you're sensitive to caffiene, substitute half of the tea bags with decaf.
Actually, a splash of fruit juice is pretty good in iced tea too.
