ask him to see his DD214 and his last ERB both will show his Qualifications and discharge code on the 214. I doubt he was in SF after only 8 months. He could join as a infantry and chose to try out in ranger school and washed out but he still would not have been SF and a sniper in 8 months. By the way there is a new federal Law that provides punishment for people who publicly state that they are awarded any thing they are not or have had training they never had

Special ops is kind of a vague term and is often misused. In the army we have special ops, and special forces. Special Forces are sent as teams into foreign countries and train natives in guerrilla warfare, whom then are sent to fight our adversaries. Special Ops are the best guys selected from special forces whom go out in the night and preform unknown missions, killing unknown targets so to speak. SF school alone is longer than 8 months so I'd say your buddy is feeding you some BS.

8 months of service?

NO WAY he was either Special Forces or sniper qualified.

What he did was fail out of boot camp or his AIT. And he failed in such a way that the Army decided he could not be allowed to remain in any way in the service so he was discharged.

And his lies to you are proving the wisdom of those who put him out -- obviously not an honorable or honest person.

At least four years or one term of service. You can get a specialty in a sniper if you test really well in firearms but they don't put you in a sniper unit for at least one term of service.

your buddie in for 8 months is blowing smoke your way. 8 months isnt even enough time to get through your "boot" phase at your first duty station.

he could have been in training to be one. However, if he never finished said training he is being disingenuous for claiming to have been one.
