Wolfsburgh...Vincente Fox was doing what America asked him to do when they signed the NAFTA trade agreement. Many people in his country were leary of doing business with outside countries. So the U S asked him to sell America to his people so an uprising wouldn't occur. Now that very same idea is popping up in Calderons cabinet.he is getting all kinds of flak for having ties with America.NAFTA hurt Mexico more than it hurt us.There's a lot coming up here soon so people need to be aware. And knowledgable on all of it.

OK i did read the whole thing and something which i noticed is that the number maquiladoras expanded after NAFTA the sad thing about this is than they are losing some of them now to China because as we all know it is a lot cheaper over there
can i be a retarded too ??? dee dee dee !!!
i think its sad that they get paid so little (1/6) of the minimum wage in the USA ( i believe that its more than in the rest of Mex ) and yet people are not able to see why many of them decide to cross the border the way they do . they should be allowed to come to right way or the USA should stop making business with its own unless it betters the living conditions of their employees . some should even be required to move back to Mexico or the USA .
edit : game sits next to dog tricks in a tree :D and has a dumb smile :D on his big big face ~_O

It's alto more complicated. Nafta hides the origin of products. Things get shipped repeatedly to hide the true origin of the product. Car companies hide the fact that most of the car is made outside of the US. Japan was good at it. It's not quite true about all the stuff made in CHina. Chinas coastal city makes about $3 an hour equivalent to the US. China is not that cheap anymore. I think El Salvadore is about a dollar a day. Why does CHina do so well. Well to start off with they outsource their work to those country that gets paid a dollar a day. China also builds entire cities around an industry. That makes Chinese factories more efficient. Mexico tried that, and as you heard, the factoris are shuttering. Mexico did not know how to manage their factories, but I have a feeling some of the failures are on purpose. As for why the immigrants are coming, I have a feeling it has to do with racism and instability in Mexico. I've been noticing that the Hispanic immigrants are getting darker in color. I have a feeling that there is a huge influx from the southern poor regions of Mexico. In the 90's there was a rebelion, where Mexico started wiping out villages. Instead of solving the problem in the south, I have a feeling that their pushing the people from the SOuth to the US. It's a feeling and I have no proof what so ever nor do I base this on any articles.

Tricks,
Yeah...it's been going on since the 60's. It's NOT an 'eye-opener' for me.
You're comparing apples and oranges. You think it's bad in Mexico? You should see some of the other countries to which manufacturing and labor-intensive industries are outsourced to. I don't see folks from those countries breaking laws and coming over without proper documentation.
I've read it all and I haven't changed my opinion. The U.S. is a sovereign nation with laws pertaining to immigration. Try to sneak into the Czech Republic or Germany without first clearing customs...they shoot first and sort things out later. No one says 'boo' about them.
Response:
Okay, Tricks, what would you have our government DO? We're honoring NAFTA...I do not believe there are provisions in that agreement that stipulates that whichever citizens of countries that feel 'gypped' by the very agreement that THEIR representatives fought for has the RIGHT to break OUR sovereign laws, re. immigration.
Wrong IS wrong...for better or worse, there are laws that must be abided by. What really got to me is when Vicente Fox all but encouraged folks to illegally cross the border. What the hell is that?
Response 2:
Mexico is not the only country that signed the NAFTA. There are many other Latin American countries that are 'hurt' by this agreement too, presumably...so:
1. Being on the short end of an agreement gives one country the right to wage economic war (or cause great chaos) by encouraging their citizens to usurp their neighbor's immigration laws?
2. There were a LOT of border plant closures within the past ten years, most caused by OTHER countries under-bidding on labor costs. So, the U.S. Government is now to blame for that as well? It's now an AMERICAN trait to find the best deal possible for things? I don't think so.
Still, the question begs to be answered: What will you have our government DO?

Selling them toxic waste! I know the sun glasses company RayBan dumps their toxic waste onto the lands there. That's part of the reason they moved there. Little or No environmental laws they have to abide by. And that is the entire reason I don't drink any alcohol out of those clay mugs they use in the bars there. Guess what's in the clay, and what the alcohol absorbs. And I don't put that junk in my body.
And as for their environmental clean-up... I've seen children digging through that crap to find something to eat to stave off their hunger. Or share it with their siblings. Their garbage yards, the children also go through. Bringing home anything that might repair a hole for the home in which they live in.
There has never been any effort to clean up that whole toxic mess by either country. So no wonder they come here for "free" medical services.

I do not get your point, and I tried with all honesty. I live by Juarez where there are several maquiladora plants. It is nothing to be alarmed over, so make another point not based on fear and false information. This is suppose to be about illegal immigration not Mexico, Spain, or Puerto Rico.
I love Mexicans and Mexico; I have a serious problem with illegal immigration.

>>>>skips in throwing rose petals>>>> So, today you are a retarded, did I understand correctly...an illegal mexican, and your article is junk. I for one, am glad for the link. I'll go read and be right back. Hang in there!!
Bush is not my friend.
This is the part that I took note of the most, aside from the New River...that sounds special, filthiest in America...eww.
"By the late twentieth century, the industry accounted for approximately 25 percent of Mexico’s gross domestic product, and 17 percent of total Mexican employment.[6] However, profits generated from maquiladoras are typically sent back to the United States, or other investor-based countries, and therefore, maquiladoras do not promote direct economic development within Mexico.
Since globalization has contributed to the competition and advent of low-cost offshore assembly in places like Taiwan, China, and other countries in Central America, maquiladoras in Mexico have been on the decline since 2000.[7] According to federal sources, approximately 529 maquiladoras shut down and investment in assembly plants decreased by 8.2 percent in 2002.[8] Despite the decline, there still exist over 3,000 maquiladoras along the 2,000 mile-long United States–Mexico border, providing employment for approximately one million workers, and importing more than $51 billion in supplies into Mexico.[9] As of 2006, maquiladoras still account for 45 percent of Mexico’s exports.[10]"
Ok, so we have these sweat shop factories, products back and forth, the wide open border is littered with them. NAFTA specifies how Mexico is supposed to bring everything up to par but the haz waste is from the U.S., no environmental funds available to do it I assume either, the conditions are poor, wages are low, turnover rate high, and Mexico sees way less profit than the U.S. (this part makes sense to me actually). Not only that but now we have this new river and millions of illegal immigrants seeking what I'm beginning to think our government has actually promised them...jobs and all. I hate it all...all of the facts. Still...they are coming in droves, like they are entitled to do so. Mexico needs to stop it now. Obviously there is a correllation between the decline of maquiladoras, offshoring, all of the above, and illegal immigration. So, we're back to NAFTA now, right? Which mexico is not holding up it's end of the bargain in many respects. It is their responsibility to provide jobs for their people with a decent wage. They are supposed to improve conditions. I don't think U.S. big business "draws" them here nearly as much as mexico forces them on us. They have no right to allow conditions such that illegal immigration rises here. Ok, now, what am I missing...coz' I know it's a lot. Coz' I'm a smarticle too. LOL!! I'm turning you in.
So, which is it? We promised, we draw them, or they force them out? I cannot decide. All of the above.

OK, so American companies give Mexicans jobs in Mexico.
How does this defend illegals coming here?
You link didn't change my opinion at all: illegals should be hounded down and the companies who hire them fined into bankruptcy. No jobs, no illegals.

It's still illegal. The fact is that this country is for Americans and for those people who come here LEGALLY! Get this. Today, in Oklahoma City, 65 gang bangers were arrested and 63 of them were ILLEGALS and they WILL be deported. The LA TIMES reported that 95% of warrants for murder are for ILLEGALS! Are these the kind of people you are talking about? I hope not! If you wanna live here - DO IT LEGALLY OR DO NOT DO IT AT ALL!!! And, yeah, I'm yelling!
