When I was younger I use to cut myself quite badly. It'll be 2 years next month since I have.

On my leg I have a scar from where I cut myself very deeply. This scar often still hurts. It's an achy, sharp pain.

Is this normal? Will it ever go away?

I have scars from operations that don't do this...

Historyman- It's on my thigh, down the outside about a hand length above my knee. It also pulses sometimes.

I'd rather explaining to another doctor that doesn't know my family and when I can take George.

I don't need to talk to counsellor. I havn't done this in two years.

As someone who's been hurt a lot (accident prone & clumsey mostly) I hate to tell you. Sometimes the body just doesn't heal properly. There may be a nerve that got cut that never completely fixed itself.

Sometimes people who take a B-complex multivitamin for a while report that chronic pain lessens. For some people acupuncture works, if you're near enough to someone who does that it may be worth a try.

Sorry I can't say my usual "don't worry" but there's places I've been stabbed or hit that still hurt 10 years later from time to time.

So any cutters out there, QUIT IT.

Hi Wabby, It sounds like you may have cut to deep and may have cut a nerve or something else and it my be infected on top of the other problem. You really need to see a doctor about your leg because this is not normal. I had a total knee replacement 5 years ago and my scar does not hurt with sharp pains. Please see a doctor this could be serious.

It's possible that there was some nerve damage. Nerves heal very slowly. But you did that at least two years ago and that is probably long enough even for a nerve to heal. Some injuries leave some lasting, recurrent pains for decades. Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Maybe you should.

It will depend upon where you cut yourself and what it has done.
If it was two years ago check with your doc and let her examine it.
Do it whilst you are still here so the doc who has your records can check her records to see how you were treated.
You don't want to have to explain things to a new doc up north.
Get your local doc to recommend one up there that they trust and can forward your files to.
