The allergy shots I am familiar with
were determined by a skin test.
From the unique results of my skin test,
the Dr. mixed the set of allergens particular to me,
labeling the bottles, and refrigerating them with my name
on them.
For the shots, I would go to his office 2 or 3 times a week
to be injected.
For my own safety -- since they were injecting the very
allergens I had problems with -- I was asked to wait
where I could be observed for a period of time following the shots.
I'm glad they required that, as on occasion I did have an
adverse reaction. Because I was still in the office
I was given immediate medical attention.

The allergy shots are not composed of a "medicine" for your allergies. The shots contain small amounts of whatever things you are allergic to. This is determined by skin testing, usually. You start off with weaker strength and build up to a more stronger strength. It desensitizes you to whatever you are allergic to, so that when you are around it, you have less or no allergy symptoms. This isn't accomplished overnight, so if you decide to do it, be patient, it really works. Some people report feeling a difference in just weeks. So, to answer your question, you have to get your shots a the doctor, you can't get the shots by prescription. Plus, there is risk of systemic allergic reaction, so after you take the shot, you have to wait 20 minutes to make sure this doesn't happen. Good luck and good health.

Yes you do have to go to an allergist for testing first. Then the allergist will have a serum mixed especially for you. You will go to the office to have allergy shots weekly, then every 2 weeks, and so on. If you have someone, wife, father or mother, etc., who is willing to learn how to give you the shots, the serum will be given to you for home injections. However, you will need to see your doctor on occasion. Good luck, allergies are the pits. I live in Texas where everything grows well!

Allergy shots are always done at the doctors office. There they can monitor you for allergic reactions to the shot.

You have to go to the doctor's office every week for shots. You also need to stay in the office for about 30 minutes to an hour after the shots to make sure you don't have a reaction as each week they raise the amount of allergen injected. It can take months or years to build up an immunity.

Why do you want allergy shots when you could take a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day and be allergy free-naturally. Local honey works with the body to develop immunity to all the air born irritants around you including pollen, pet dander, smog, dust and mold. Allergy shots will NOT cure your allergy-only suppress the symptoms. Local honey Will also boost your immune system and help with cold and flu symptoms as well. You only have one body. Take care of it naturally and it will treat you right.

You go to the doctor's office, as you must be observed, lest you have a reaction. At first, at may be as often as twice a week, but later, it will be once a month. And who knows, you may move and your allergies may go away. Mine showed up in Minnesota, intensified in Iowa (where I started the shots), continued through Illinois, BUT disappeared when I moved to Missouri!

I've always had them done at the doctors office. They had me sit for like 10 or 15 minutes to make sure there was no reaction. I don't think they'd send you home with a prescritption.
