If you want to be EOD then you have chosen the hardest routes in order to get there. For Navy EOD, they are considerd part of SOCOM, (special operations command). You will get dive training before you go and will do about 3 months of school more than the rest of the services that are there. EOD in the Navy is the closest thing to being a SEAL without actuall being one. For the Marine Corps you are going to have to complete 4 years in another MOS before you can apply, and you have to be either a Cpl or a Sgt. You have to achieve and maintain a 1st Class PFT and conduct an interview with your local EOD SNCOIC and OIC, and you must get a minimum GT score of 110 on your ASVAB. None of these requirements are waiverable. For all services you must be elig. for a Top Secret Clearance. You would be supprised how many people think this is easy to get but find out later that they will be unable to get one.
If you choose to go an easier route you can go Army or Airforce. You might have to get a minimum GT score but they take anyone it seems.

I work with Navy EOD every day, from what they've told me is that you have to be in fantastic shape, these guys exercise at least 2 hours a day 6 days a week. You have to be an excellent swimmer, they often deal with mined waterways, and you have to be good with your hands.

In my experience with dealing with Navy, Air Force, and Army EOD one thing is constant, there's an extremely high attrition rate at AIT

Be aware though they get deployed like crazy, but get hazard pay, handling hazardous materials pay, SAFE pay, NBC pay (certain instances), and the Navy gets another one as well but I can't remember off the top of my head. If you're just starting out this is a good, but very risky, career.

Right now the Army and Navy is pushing it's EOD so hard a lot of people are getting out.

How much do you like the ocean? Do you have any problems sleeping in a coffin? I'm not joking here, have you ever slept in a bed where you could lay on your back put your elbow against the mattress and touch the ceiling with your fingers. You can and will be deployed on the ocean for up to and including 6 months at a time eating crappy food, visiting cool ports in some cases and in general living with about 200+ guys that you work with. For marines, well you'll probably go to Iraq if you're EOD advancement is high if you live, but you better be good at your job.

Due respects to French, but I was in the Navy, and I don't think I ever had a bad meal aboard ship... either on the mess decks or in a wardroom. Granted, enlisted sleeping arrangements are a little cramped... but when you're sleeping, what difference is it if the ceiling is 3 feet or 30 feet above you? Besides, you have your own reading light... and the things are air conditioned.

Some ships are at sea for long periods. But they're harder targets to hit than a group of guys on the ground. And if somebody were to sink a carrier, for example... and that's no small feat... you're probably talking WW III.

As far as EOD... my information is dated... I'd guess you've been to http://www.eod.navy.mil/... but, unless things have changed, it's not gong to be easy.

Go Coast Guard. You are most always on american soil and on the coast. If in aviation depending on your location you deploy little to none. Great Job dangerous, but very appreciated. You get the same benefits as all other branches of the military. Many things you can do.. In shape, then jump out of helos and be a rescue swimmer. All they do is workout and swim and train. Awsome service.
