Why just limit your mind to one thing in the Bible?
Do you Only read the Red words?
Yes, the bible is flawed but that doesn't mean there isn't volumes to learn from the entire book!
Any time you take anything out of context your edification is flawed! Learn the history of the Bible. Learn what else was going on in the world when it was Canonized and your eyes will be opened to what was twisted by man and what the true message of Jesus and God is. Read the Orthodox Bible, The Karon, The Hebrew Bible, Buddhist teaching, Science Books and anything else you can get your hand on.
I think that if you are an Educated person you will be blessed!

Wrong! Q. Have there been more books written ABOUT Abe Lincoln or BY Abe Lincoln? President Bush didn't write the headlines in the newspaper. Man did. Are all the headlines flawed, unreliable and wrong? Jesus represented an idea, a truth, rules, instructions, and gave the way of salvation & eternal life. Define a good person. The 9/11 hijackers thought they were doing a good thing. I assume car thieves think they are doing a good thing. What do you think? Were their opinions right or wrong? The Bible doesn't lie. It doesn't tell you that wrong is right and right is wrong. It tells the truth. A good person can't earn salvation. If we could merit salvation on our own accord, then why would we need Jesus? Did He die for nothing? And, by whos opinion of right and wrong would we go by? Hitler? 9/11 terrorists? M.L. King? Billy Graham? Whos?

fundamentalists and literalist Christians will argue that those flawed men who wrote the Bible were divinely inspired and so were lifted of their "flaws" while writing.... Also, having been educated in Catholisism, I can say with certainty that Jesus did more than represent an idea, however, having explored other religions and continuing my spiritual journey even now, I will say that I believe most religions (at least within the context of their mytholigy) basically teach goodness, love, sacrifice and selflessness as a means of obtaining whatever paradise awaits....
I don't think any religion's dogma can or should be simplified to the point where it can fit on a mini post-it note.
Yes, you are correct in saying that if we all try to live a good life, free of the trappings of greed and selfishness; that if we help our fellow men and women and live by the rules of our consciences, then we will certainly be in a better place in our lives; even perhaps blessed, as you say. This blessing can come in the form of many different things.... peace of mind, physical wealth or prosperity, good health, large groups of people who love us.... whatever your version of blessing is.
Yes, men are flawed, writings are manipulated, attitudes change and so do mindsets. If we look to others for guidance we will be guided to believe what others believe. I think we should all look inside of ourselves to find the answers. If we are in fact temples meant to house "God" then surely he/she will provide us with the answers that we seek.
Live in peace my friend. Isn't that the point?

So, do you like the wisdom and logic of Socrates? He was a great man and was one of the greatest Greek philosophers. But, we don't have any writings from Socrates. Instead, we have Plato who wrote down what he heard and observed from Socrates. The same thing happened with the gospels. Some stuff was written for the decade they were written in, and a lot of stuff was taken from Q or from other smaller source documents. Jesus didn't write his own book as a lot of others didn't either. However, the witness to his words and life is written down.

Jesus founded a Church. The books of the New Testament were written after His death, and not compiled definitively until about the year 467 by St Athanasius and validated by the Third Ecumenical Council of Carthage.
Like it or not, its all real history.

I think you are right. The Bible is only a guide, a hint of all the things Jesus came to 'teach'. It's a shame we don't have his version of facts and events, but I think it would shatter a lot of what people believe is the 'base' in their religion. My religious beliefs are not based on Jesus but he is part of it, he helped me see what was important and what was not.

If the Bible is flawed, then how can you be sure Jesus even said that much?
The ancient Jewish book 'The Generations of Jesus', makes him out to be a scoundral rebel rouser.

coach: In your presumptuousness, you have negated within your statement, to include the inspiration of the Holy Spirit as the catalyst behind the initial penning of the Holy Bible. God wasn't stupid to leave His word in the hands of mere, sinning men. Jesus Christ lives His life within the Christian, renewing the Christian from the inside - out !!! It's about transforming NOT conforming !!!

He wrote every word of the bible, which you'd know if you'd have read through to the end...the spirit of Jesus IS the spirit of prophecy...men wrote as they were carried along by the spirit of God...
many verses you'd find if you really wanted to know. This is an easy one. Find something harder, c'mon.

Have you tried reading the Thomas Jefferson version of the bible? Basically he eliminates all the BS and gets to the core of Jesus' teachings. Good stuff.
