In the Army, when you pick up trash, it's called a police call. I figured I'd catch on to it eventually, but now that I've been in for two years, I still have absolutely no idea why they call it that. It seems like a police call would be when you call the police. Does anyone have any idea where this term came from?

Police is an older term from WWI to pickup or make ready (think about Prohibition and making things right at a speak-easy when they were about to make a raid).

Well seeing that you've been in for 2 years, you should know that the army makes so damn sense what so ever... haha. But which brings me to a question, do you know what TMP stands for? Cause everyone I've asked has no idea. Haha. "hooah"... or the same with that word...

Police also means the regulation of sanitation according to my dictionary. It's a play on words like sanitation engineer.
