For three hundred years churches in the South taught that black skin was a sign of God's curse. Churches are still the most segregated institution in the South.

That's a good question considering we are all really one race, born of Adam and Eve.
I've met a lot of so-called christians who are really just religious fanatics, not followers of Christ at all. True Christians know that Christ did not judge by the color of skin or the accent one has, but of what's in the heart and mind. True Christians know that we are all the same as far as body goes, and that the real difference is what one believes and who one follows.
I'm thinking these professed christians are not Christ-followers at all, but just take on the name of those who are supposed to be good as a way of spreading evil and hatred.

I dunno, but from what I've seen a majority are DEFINITELY old people. I'm guessing this stems back from things such as the racial tensions between the whites and blacks or the war with Vietnam.
This old hag I met on the bus, white, old, and christian wearing the cross was just the rudest thing I've ever seen. She didn't pay the fare. She went in through the back door then demanded a 5 year old asian CHILD to give up her seat using SEVERAL racial remarks. There are bloody seats in the front assigned for seniors that actually PAY for their fares...I felt like pushing her off the bus and into a speeding truck....

I think its the other way around. I'm a christian myself and am not racist of any sort. Then again I'm White Latino.
Though all the White Christians I've met seem friendly.

I guess for the same reason there are so many black racist Christians, brown racist Catholics, yellow racist Buddhists, etc...people despise other people for a lot of silly things, for religion, skin pigment, hairstyle, personal beliefs of many kinds, for not being politically correct or for being politically correct. Racism isn't any worse or any better than any other reason to despise another person.

I would be willing to bet that a.) you are around a lot of white people, b.) you are around a lot of Christian people and c.) you aren't white.
Virtually all groups are racist to some degree. A white guy in Africa would likely feel that blacks are more racist than whites. That same guy would feel as if whatever the predominant religion was contained more racists than any other religion. He would probably also both misinterpret non-racist things as racist and fail to see his own/his people's racism due to his familiarity with it.
So you identify the racists by the same criteria by which they practice their racism--by noticing the differences between one another.

There are racists of all colors who are Christians and use the Christian bible wrongfully to justify their hatred.
The most virulent White Racists deny Christianity because they call it a "Jewish Invention" *fights back nausea caused by this sick hatred*

Steve: Those, "Christians", who use the guise of Christianity as a cloak to proclaim racism, are only kidding them selves.
A genuine Christian is not a racist nor a bigot to anyone. A genuine Christian live by the love of the command by Jesus, to love his or her neighbour as them self ! Love works zero ill effects to others; therefore, racism has no place in either, the words nor deeds of a real Christian ! What you have come across is phony or "false" Christians, Steve !

Racist and Christian is an oxymoron-a contradiction in terms. A true Christian won't be racist. A racist isn't a true Christian. It is unfortunate, and somewhat odd that a racist would try to legitimize hatred by claiming an affiliation with Jesus Christ.
