I have taken ativan with lexapro before, and it worked just fine. The two drugs work in two different ways. The lexapro is there to eventually boost the levels of seretonin in your blood, which will prevent anxiety once the medication is fully working. Ativan is different:it's more like a tranquilzer. It's meant to calm your anxiety down right then and there. It works immediately, and it treats the symptoms, not the problem, which is why you are on lexapro too. You need sleep, badly. Your anxiety will be worse if you don't get enough sleep...I would take the ativan if I was you, and wait a few weeks until lexapro has had the chance to work, and then your doctor will probably take you off ativan or at least just have it around in case you get too anxious. Plus, I feared I was getting addicted too...you're not. That's just your anxiety again.

hope this helps

well i can only say what i know about Lexapro , i don't know what the other medicine is? I do know Lexapro should help you with sleep problem thats what my doc said cause it helps with depression and stuff so it helps you sleep better cause you will feel better and not be so depressed and therefore sleep better!! You need to give it time to work, it can take serveal weeks before you notice any change with any medicine, it doesn't work right away!! It has to get into your systom before it can do what it needs to do ! And you must take it the same time every day and try not miss a dose ! If you want to feel better and sleep better do what your doctor tells you and don't worry about getting addicted to it cause if you really need it then you need it !!! I to didin't want to be hooked on Medicine but if it made me feel better then it would be worth it !! some people need medicine and they are the ones that should take it !! My mom always told me not to take anything if i could help it, cause she took medicines all her Life!! So that made me afraid to start taking anything from what she had told me!! It took me forever and i suffered alot before i would try anything, in fear of getting hooked on something!!! But i found out too that now days medicne is different then it was years ago like back when she took all that stuff and now its even improved!! and it helps the chemicals in the brain !! If you have a chemical inbalance in the brain it can effect your sleep and you do need medicne to fix it!! and cause deperssion. too! also thyroid problem can cause sleep problems too, have you had your thyroid check too?? just incase. well, good luck and give the medicine time to work!!

I think you may be talking about ativan...Well Lexapro will make you have difficulty sleeping...I had to take something similar to ativan, makes you drowsy...I took it for a few nights until the the lexapro to begin to help and my body to get used to it...Now I only take the lexapro and am sleeping fine. Good luck!

I agree with everybody, lexapro is one of the safest anti-deppresants out in the market, its so safe they give it to pregnant women, but remember for some people lexapro takes about a full month to really take full effect. Just follow your doctors ordders and give it time and you will be fine. Also try some breathing exercises at niight , they really help to relax your body and to slow your heartbeat. Ive been in and out of deppression slash anxiety for the past 5 years and it always comes back around this time for some reason, but luckily I have learned to control it where I dont have to take medication . Thanks to god, if you ever have any questions feel free to e-mail me anytime.
