would a medical technologist use outside information 2 help diagnose a patient??? (for example, would they use things like low blood pressure readings in their reports on a patient with anemia? or use EKGs/ECGs 2 help with a high cholesterol patient??? x-rays for melignant tumors?)
p.s. i dont mean the lab tech actually DOING them, i just mean that if they use them in the patient records or not.

Usually.....No. Technically they shouldn't. Unless its for research or academic purposes. Actuall diagnosis is not up to them.

Medical Technologist only examines lab samples given to them. They test the sample whether they may be blood, stool, urine, biopsies, etc and they compare it with the normal vaues they have in their institutions. Then the report is given to the attending physician for interpretation and possible diagnosis.

Reasons for this is that physicians have further academic and actuall training to consider the factors involve.

Usually the reason why medtechs use outside sources is to check whether their sample and test will not yeild false positive or false negative results, wrong samples received or questionable results based on the probable diagnosis of the physian. Meaning just to check not diagnose
