I think it's pretty funny, but I'd like it a lot better if SOMETHING somewhere was in focus. I know your camera has a small sensor, but this is a full format image, so I won't blame it on the camera.

But - I like the concept. It looks like he just poked his head right in your way as you were trying to compose a nice shot of the scenery. I know that's not how it happened, but like I said, I think it's pretty funny. I love the teeth!

Good is relative, successful or not is probably a more accurate analysis. It also depends a lot upon your intentions for this picture. Since you have not stated any specifically, I am going to have to answer this based solely on the composition, technique, and a little guess work. No offense, but the underexposure, although a problem, is not the most significant one present in your photograph.

-If your aim was portraiture, specifically animal portraiture, there are a few things unsuccessful here:
The lama (?) should be considered a focal point, there by being the object of attention in your composition. Although placing the lama (?) in a context (i.e. your background) is very appropriate, the background should be blurred instead of the foreground, so as to emphasize the importance of the lama (?). There are several reasons to blur the foreground, which often change the focal point (not always), but in this case, I cannot see why you would. In addition, I would check out this link: http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/communications/DL2960.html , as it provides a simple straightforward guide to approaching portraiture compositionally. You have to think about what you want people to read about the picture. Is this a simple ode’ to the lama (?), or are you trying to tell a story? I suspect that if you are asking this question, this is not exactly a casual snapshot type photograph because why then would you care. Therefore, I think you may want to carefully consider your desired intentions.

-Alternatively, if you are trying a narrative photograph, there is very little to read from what you have presented except silly looking animal stairs at camera man. Think about what makes the most sense in trying to convey a “story.” I say that liberally, because you don’t have to literally be telling us how the lama went up a mountain to fetch a pail of water…but, as a viewer we want to know why; why you as a photographer thought this to be a scene worth capturing. What have you laid out before us? A simple animal caught in a candid moment, or should we see a complex, wild, fascinating animal caught in the middle of the 21st century (something he cannot possibly understand perhaps?). You get my drift.

-I’m not going to continue down the line of photographic variety, I’m just going to say that you need to figure out why this is a picture worth taking (to you), and then how to go about expressing that to us (the viewer) through compositional arrangement. Technique is important as well, but you can pick up a $7 photography 101 book for tips on that, the true “art” of photography lies in the photographer’s eye. Those split second decisions we make about why and how…

The animal (llama?) is out of focus. Since it is placed prominently in the picture, it really should be in focus.

No. Out of focus is never good.

Its funny, but the llama is not in focus- so its not as great as it could be.
