Okay, here's the situation....................
I went to the vetinarian because my dog's back leg wouldn't move. The vet said that my dog, a pekingese, had a disk problem in her rear legs and body. For the past couple days, she's been stationary and her excrements are filled right under her. Since she can't move, she's been biting her legs that itch her. She has built a rash and an inflammation. The vet said to wait to see if her disk heals. If not, she has to be put to sleep. I don't want that to happen. She's only a year old. Do you guys have any other solution?
There was this cast thing I saw on Television. It was attached to the rear of the dog and it had wheels. The dog had to move through her front legs. I don't know what it's called. Will that help. Any info on that device? Any help or solution? Please.

No, whenever I come back from work, she is laid in her excrement because she can't move. I do wash her up though. You're not helping me.

I don't want surgery. It costs a lot of money. The vet said maybe $5000 dollars. I want another solution.

Thanks, Jocelyn for your suggested solution. Will acupuncture and all that help if her disk is misplaced or injured?

My dog didn't get an MRI or X-Ray. The vet said that it's no broken bones or torn muscles. She is somewhat "paralyzed" and can't move her legs because of an injured disk.

You might want to seek a second opinion and see if surgery is an option.
The rash is likely caused from laying in her own waste, make sure you are keeping clean.
The cast thing you refer to is often called a k9 cart, here's a website for more information on them http://www.k9carts.com/

You need to take your dog to another vet as soon as the sun comes up tomorrow.
He cannot tell if your dog has a disk problem unless he does an MRI or at least an Xray. He cannot tell from looking at it or feeling it.
You would have to go to a specialist for the surgery. It could cost more than $5000. Then again, it might not require surgery at all.
She cannot continue to lay in her excrement. That vet is a an idiot when he says let her lay & "see if the disk heals". He doesn't even sound like a real vet.
Run her to someone else ASAP if you want to save her life.

Most vets tell you in an injury like this to cage the dog and have very little movement for 30 days to see if rest improves the situation. However, they do not mean not to help clean the dog. You should see a specialist. One of my groomers that works for me had a similar situation 3 yrs ago with her dachshund. They did surgery and the dog is about 90% better. Can walk, not run, no pain. But a slight twist when she walks. Also, possibly a chiropractic veterinarian. might be helpful. Best of luck.

Go to a specialist and get a second opinion. There are neuro specialists for dogs. You can call some vet offices to recommend one. They can sometimes do steriod injections or meds. Did your dog have a CT scan or MRI? THis is the only way to truely diagnose a disk problem. Plain x-rays do not show disk herniations. Hope this helps.

You don't want to pay for surgery, but you'll fork over who knows how much for accupuncture and accupressure?
THAT MAKES NO SENSE!!
Do you think that will be cheap?
Disk problems you describe don't go away on their own. You are looking at caring for a disabled dog for the next 10-15 years. Are you ready for that? (See my other answer on this subject).
How would you feel if you found out that her suffering was preventable with surgery? You can make payments. You can borrow money. There is no excuse to let a pet suffer.

Some disk problems can be corrected with surgery, which is normally done by a specialist. Your vet probably should have referred you to one so you could at least find out if it is operable.
I would seek a second opinion or find out if there is a specialist in your area. If there is a veterinary school nearby with a teaching hospital, they are likely to have someone who could help you.
In the mean time, keep her clean so that the rash doesn't get worse.

Yes, it is possible to get a cart, but why didn't your vet teach you how to use a sling to allow your dog to use the restroom outside? That makes no sense to leave your dog in its own mess... talk about nasty. You need to find a new vet. There are many things you can try... Dog Acupuncture, dog chiropractic, etc. Find a new vet and find one willing to work with your dog. There are many options, but you need to take the initiative and find a solution on your own. Never trust anyone else to make welfare decisions about your dog.
Please do the research on dog acupuncture and chiropractic care.
Good luck.

It is a dog wheel chair. I work at a vet hospital and there is a dog who lost the use of his back legs and has a wheelchair. The dog has to have use of his front legs to be able to use a wheelchair. He is the cutest little thing.

Your dog should not be left to lay in her own excrement, are you not taking her out to potty or cleaning her?! Also, you need another vet, yours sounds like he is a moron.
