can you get a program like autodesk to work on vista even though it says made XP or 2000?

Sometimes yes,

Find the .exe file for autodesk and right click on it.

Choose Properties, then the Compatibility tab.

Choose the option for running in the compatibility mode you want from the list - XP would be my first choice.

Sometimes works - sometimes doesn't.
