I was wondering if anyone has heard of anyone enlisting in the navy in the reserves... then, if I like it and decide that is what I want my career to be, applying to OCS to become an officer....

does this sound like a good idea? I already have a 4 year degree...but I sorta want to experience the navy as an enlisted first.... Thanks

can it be done? yeap, my husband did that although he was Active.

the big question is: will the Reserves let you go? They may not, the Reserves is critically undermanned right now, while the AD component, for the most part, is overmanned. If you wanted to Enlisted to Officer and stay Reserves, you may have a better shot.

One thing to understand though: the Reserves really ISN'T a lot like the AD Navy. Lot less sea time for one. and depending on the Unit, you could be deployed a lot more..especially SeaBees.

it is a LOT easier to go Active Duty to Reserves than the other way around.
